Wherefore seeing (since) we also are compassed (surrounded by) about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset (ensnare) us, and let us run with patience (perseverance) the race that is set before us – Hebrews 12-1 Weight is a heaviness that will keep a person from moving forward whether its naturally or spiritually. Spiritually speaking, Christians must be careful who and what they allow in their lives that would become a weight. If we become to busy to pray, whatever we’re doing can become a weight. If we spend more time talking on the phone or watching television and on the computer rather than taking time to read and study the Word of God for twenty or thirty minutes, it will become a weight. Some Christians spend more time on what they will wear to work or church than the time they will take to pray and read the Bible. Weights is not a sin, but it can become sin if we continue to stay in that state of mind-set. Weights can hinder our spiritual growth, this is why the Bible has instructed the Christian to set their affections on things above and not the things on the earth because if we don’t; we will allow weights to become apart of our life.
