Growing in Grace

And beside this giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness charity (2nd Peter 1:5).

The Apostle Peter is giving a listing of how to grow in grace; these are faith actions and must be practiced continually on a daily basis. God has empowered and enabled us to succeed in these tasks as growing and mature Christians. God will never tell us to do something He hasn’t empowered us to do Faith is something we as Christians must walk in daily because the adversary is out to try to destroy our faith because he knows we cannot please God without faith. We don’t become mature Christians overnight, but as we study the Word of God; submit to His instructions, we will grow into mature Christians.

Prayer builds our faith in God when our prayers are answered; it gives us the faith to believe God for something else that is impossible with us but possible with God. Add to your faith indicates the areas of growth that follow after salvation. Virtue is moral excellence; knowledge is a spiritual truth; temperance is self-control in every area of our life. Patience is endurance and hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. Godliness is having the character and attributes of God. Brotherly kindness is love for the believer as well as the unbeliever. Charity is unconditional love as our Father has for us; we should have the same love for everyone.

As Christians, we should grow spiritually; our old character should be gone; there is no way a Christian can have a consistent prayer life and stay the same. Every time a Christian goes before the Father, He’s placing more of His character and attributes in the believer; that is why Satan fights and influences Christians not to pray; because he knows this is where you grow, this is where you meet the Father, this is where you receive empowerment to fight against him and his co-host.

Every Christian must fight the good fight of faith; you do this by staying connected to the Father through prayer, fasting, reading, and studying God’s Word and submitting to it. God has empowered you to win, but you must fight through obedience to the Word of God.

Life and Satan bring issues and disappointments; we must be mature enough Christians not to faint when attacks, trials, and tribulations come. God never promised our lives would be a bed of roses, walking down life without any troubles. God has given us everything we need to live a victorious life.

We have been instructed to place on the armor of God; when the armor is being worn, we’re ready to face anything that comes in our lives without fainting or returning to the world’s way of facing trouble. If you have received salvation; you have the Spirit of God living within your spirit; you have the Greater One living within you; you can’t lose with Him on board!
