But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death – Romans 7:23-24.

Whoever controls the will, controls the man or woman. If God is in control of your will, He will control your actions. If Satan is in control of your will, he will control your actions. If you are in control of your will, self-will controls your actions. God has given every profession Christian power to overcome their soulish desires.Satan’s objective is to weaken, divert or gain control of our will. One of his major strategies today is to try to cause us to spend our lives following our own will, fulfilling the desires of our flesh instead of dedicating and committing our lives to fulfil God’s will on earth. So many people use this Scripture to make excuses for their sin “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not – Romans 7:18”. We must never use the power of sin or Satan as an excuse for not trying to do the will of God which is His Word in our life.

Sure, there isn’t anything good in ourselves, but the God of all flesh and spirits have empowered us to conquer our soulish desires in order to fulfill His desires in our lives. The Father will never instruct us to do something that He hasn’t empowered us to do. He would be an unjust God if He instructed us to do something that He hasn’t empowered us to conquer. He’s righteous and holy and He wants His people to live a life of holiness. Meaning that they have separated themselves from the actions of the world and committed themselves to Him completely.

The sin deep within us is sometimes called our “flesh” or the “law in our members” This is our vulnerability to sin; it refers to everything within us that is more loyal to our old ways of selfish living than to God.  We must always keep in mind, our flesh didn’t receive salvation, but our spirit did. This is why it is so important to feast upon the Word of God daily, memorize Scripture, quote Scripture, thin Scripture so that our spirit is fed with the Word of God. Whether it’s our flesh or spirit, whichever one we feed the most, will be the one that dominates.

Apostle Paul struggled with sin inwardly, but he didn’t consent to sin, and just as he didn’t, neither should we. When we begin to take control of our will and actions, we will be able to conquer the influence of sin. What is a sin? It’s the actions God has instructed through His written Word, teaching and preaching for us not to commit as the people of God. When a man or woman of God is defeated by sin the believer fails to live in the power supplied by the Spirit. We have victory through Jesus Christ. He has given us the power to over-come sin. He has made us more than a conquer through Him, so there is no reason for a Christian to live a defeated life! The penalty of sin is death, both spiritual and physical, it keeps us separated from having a relationship with God, we don’t receive the fullness of the benefits of salvation when we allow our sinful nature to control our actions. God loves us, but He doesn’t love the sin we commit. Although God has an everlasting love for us, He will not allow sin to enter into heaven (And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life – Revelation 21:27).

Jesus died for our sin, He has given us the gift of salvation, and as we submit to His Father’s Word, we shall be sanctified, bringing us as one with Him and the Father (Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode {dwelling} with him – John 14:23).   The penalty for sin is death, and submission to the Word is life!
