Even Now

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee – John 11:22

Lazarus was the brother of Mary and Martha, who lived in Bethany. The sisters had summoned Jesus to heal Lazarus, whom He loved, but by the time Jesus arrived Lazarus had been dead four days. His death gave Jesus the opportunity to teach about the relationship of faith in Himself to the coming resurrection. Jesus chose to raise Lazarus from the dead in order to reveal the authority the Father had given Him and the  power and to move people’s to faith in His divine origin.Mary, and Martha sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was sick, after hearing the news, Jesus stayed two more days in the place He and His disciples were at. You would have thought, the people He loved dearly, He would have rushed to their request, but He delayed His coming.  Several things were happening. Jesus delayed going to heal Lazarus in order for the glory of God to be manifested, secondly, for them to place their faith in Jesus and not what they were seeing.  Lazarus and his sister’s lived in Judea, a place where the people wanted to stone Him.  Thirdly, Jesus didn’t speak of Lazarus’s death as being dead, but sleep (These things said He, and after that He saith unto them. Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep – John 11:12). Fourthly, the disciples were walking with Jesus, being taught by Jesus, but still hadn’t realized His deity or His power (And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him  John 11:15).

Mary and Martha were followers of Jesus, they heard His teaching and believed His doctrine and believed that He was the Son of God. Mary had confidence in Jesus, she sat still as she was awaiting His coming. Whereas when Martha heard He was coming,  she ran to Him and begin to tell Him about the issues at hand. She believed if Jesus would have been there her brother wouldn’t have died. However, she didn’t believe that He could raise him from the dead, but he would be resurrected in the last day (Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall live – John 11:25).

Even now we may be in a place we have lost our joy, Jesus can resurrect it. Even now we may have lost our homes, Jesus can give us a better home than the one we had, with less mortgage payment, better quality, better insurance, better neighborhood. Even now the marriage has been dead for years and the issues that came with it stink, the Lord can resurrect it, and give back what the cankerworms and locust destroyed. Even now your child may have been addicted for years, the Lord can remove the desire from the taste buds, remove the cravings, resurrect your child to a new life. Even now you may have been praying for a long time, and the prayer hasn’t been answered, it’s delayed, but not denied.

Even now you may be living in a place where the Lord is not welcome, just the mentioning of His name, upset people and make them go off on the deep end. He will come to deliver and resurrect the house of the dead. Whenever we’re going through trials and tribulations that appear to be stronger than we can bear, God will get the glory. He’s not allowing pain and suffering to come into our life for naught, He’s doing something we can’t see, He’s moving mountains and hinderance that have caused us to stop our faith walk. He’s destroying and building spiritual character. He’s taking us to glory to glory, He’s building our faith in Him and not what we see or feel. Even now, He’s working on our behalf, don’t stop praying, don’t lose faith, Jesus is coming, help is on the way!
