The Veil

But their minds were blinded (made dull) for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their hearts. Nevertheless, when it (one) shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. – 2nd Corinthians 3:14-16.

When Moses came down Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments, his face glowed because of being in God’s presence. He put on a veil to keep the people from being terrified by the brightness of his face. Moses and his veil illustrates the fading away of the old system and the veiling of the people’s mind and understanding with their pride, hardness of heart and refusal to repent.

Just as the veil was upon the hearts and minds of the people in the Old Testament to the point, the veil kept them from understanding the references of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures. Even now, many professing Christians know of the Jesus of the New Testament, but Jesus just didn’t come on the scene in the New Testament. He was spoken about from the very beginning of creation. It was Jesus that God was speaking to about creating man in their image (And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth – Genesis 1:26).

When the veil is upon the hearst of people, it will take the Spirit of God to draw them through His Spirit and through believers to Jesus (No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him; and I will raise him up at the last day – Luke 6:44). Sadly, to say, many attend church, but their hearts are far from God. They attend church because that was what they were taught to do, but God wants more than us attending church, He wants our hearts, He wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men – Matthew 15:9.  God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth – John 4:24).

Spirit is the opposite of what is material and earthly, spirit is a matter of the heart. The heart has to be submitted to the Word of God. Truth is what is in harmony with the nature and will of God. Jesus instructed His disciples then and now, if we want to be His disciples, we have to deny ourselves (Then said Jesus, unto His disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me – Matthew 16:24). Following Jesus means true commitment, the risk of death, and no turning back. Clinging to this life may cause us to forfeit the best from Christ in this world and in the next. The more we love this life’s rewards, leisure, power, popularity, and the love of money, we focus on this life and not the life where we will spend eternity.

The veil must be taken off our eyes and heart in order to allow the Spirit of God to come into our hearts and conform us to His Word and His will. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave must be abiding in us (But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his – Romans 8:9). Notice, if indicating just because one receives salvation doesn’t mean they have received the fulfilling of the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ disciples received salvation, but Jesus’ instructions were for them to be filled by the Holy Ghost to receive power (But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth – Acts 1:8).

Many received salvation and received baptism, but they hadn’t received the Holy Spirit (For as yet He was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus – Acts 8:16). To receive the Holy Spirit is simple, all we have to do is have a mind and heart determination to serve the Lord according to God’s written instructions, then ask for it, He will give you the Holy Spirit (If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him – Luke 11:13).

The veil of unbelief, has to be done away with. The veil of hypocrisy has to be done away with! Either we’re going to serve Him according to His instructions or reject the instructions, the choice is ours! Knowing Scripture but not living according to them is hypocrispy! Either we’re going to serve Him or we will be servants of Satan, we can’t serve both. Neither can we pick and choose Scriptures we will submit to, it’s doing God’s way or no way, He has giving each of us a free choice of who we will be servants to, have you chose who you will serve?
