Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few: Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest – Matthew 9:37-38.

Jesus chose twelve disciples who traveled with Him as He ministered. He began the vital task of training them as they traveled from town to town, and wherever they went Jesus taught, preached, and healed people, while His disciples assisted Him. The gospel of Matthew gives a glimpse into the heart of Jesus as He was ministering, revealing the drive behind His ministry and His reason for training men to help Him.When Jesus looked at the crowds, He saw their needs, He saw people who were trapped by sin, harassed and helpless, beaten down and scorned and without a shepherd to lead them. Because of Jesus’ compassion, He taught them and healed them. He removed the mark of sin that had plagued their lives. He changed prostitutes to servants and delivered those who were possessed by evil spirits. Jesus knew He couldn’t do His ministry work by Himself, He knew there would be future generations who would need to hear about salvation and deliverance. He also was aware that He would need workers to help Him, that’s why He told His disciples, “The harvest is plenteous, but the workers are few, ask the Lord of the harvest to send forth workers into the harvest”.

Every generation needs to hear about our Savior and the need for salvation. Jesus fulfilled that need through His death, burial and resurrection, but people can’t receive salvation unless they first hear about salvation (For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved – Romans 10:13). After one has believed they’re saved, it should be confessed with their mouth (That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation – Romans 10:9-10). There are two kinds of righteousness, by works or by faith. Righteousness by faith is as near as a person’s mouth and heart. All one has to do is repent, believe in Jesus, and confess their belief. Works of righteousness when we treat others the way we want to be treated, volunteer, give our time and monetary gifts but works will not give you son-ship. True repentance of sin must come from the heart to receive salvation; as one repents, he or she is sealed with the Holy Spirit, and eventually receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit in order to be a citizen of the Kingdom.

In order to minister the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the individual doesn’t have to be a minister, but one that has been converted in their heart and in their spirit. There must also be a desire to see others receive salvation. Daily as Christians, we see people who are in need of salvation, but everyone is not going to receive salvation because of the hardness of their hearts. That’s why we must pray and ask God to soften the heart of His people, to draw His people to Him, and to open avenues for Christians to go in and minister the Word of God. Daily we should be praying for God to place those He wants us to minister to in our paths. God has to draw them, and as He draws them to Him, when we minister salvation, God has prepared their hearts to receive.

Our prayers should be that the Word of God has a free course to every man, woman, girl, and boy. We should be seeking ways to minister salvation to those in nursing homes, hospitals, prisons and jails, senior citizen homes, walking the streets to see who God would lead us to minister.  Volunteers are needed in every ministry, staying behind the four walls of the church is not what Jesus intended for His disciples. Some will never enter into a church until they receive the Word of God, that’s why we have to go to them wherever they are.
