Faith In What You Don’t See

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them, and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make an ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch – Genesis 6:13-14.

Noah, the son of Lamech and father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Noah was the first to farm the soil and plant a vineyard, he was the first to be called righteous, he is also the first who tills the earth to obtain food; he is then rewarded with a product (wine) that mitigates the curse and provides relief for those tilling the soil. When Noah was six hundred years old, God realized that the heart of mankind was bent on evil and resolved to destroy His creation (And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them – Genesis 6:7). Noah found grace with the Lord, and he was considered a righteous man before the eyes of the Lord, and He revealed His intentions to Noah. Noah was to take seven (pairs), beast that was clean, and two of each, male and female of a beast that wasn’t clean in order to preserve the various species. Noah submitted himself to God’s request and when the rain came, he, his family, and the ark animals were all safe.

After the Flood subsided, the ark came to rest on the mountain of  Ararat. Noah immediately offered burnt offerings to the Lord for rescuing him and his family from the Flood. God’s promise to Noah in return was to never again curse the ground or destroy every living creature. God sealed His covenant with him by the sign of a rainbow. Th.e covenant between God and Noah would be for a lifetime  (And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow {rainbow} shall be in the cloud: and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth – Genesis 9:15-16).  Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth are how the present world was populated.

Noah, like his godly ancestor Enoch, walked with God, committed and submitted himself to God’s request and followed the instructions given him. When God informed Noah He was going to destroy the world by a flood, Noah didn’t question God, by asking why, he just submitted to his request. Can you imagine him preaching to the people to repent, but they wouldn’t listen to the cry of God’s heart to the people? Even now, preaching is going forth, warning the people to repent of their sins and to return to God, but just as they did in Noah’s time they will not.

You would think when they saw Noah building this huge boat that Noah knew something that they didn’t, a boat large enough to hold the different types of species and animals. You would think they would have taken notice of the warning to repent, but instead, they didn’t take warning of the destruction that was about to hit the earth. The coming of Jesus has been announced for centuries, and just like in Noah’s time, the people don’t believe destruction is coming to the earth. When the word of God is preached about the blessings and the love of God, some will hear, but when the word is preached about the fire that is going to destroy the earth because of the sin of a man many believers and non-believers turn a deaf ear.

Throughout the Bible, God chose someone to preach and teach the adulterate word of God, without condoning, without condensing it. As Christians and ministers of the word of God, the truth must be told, the day of the Lord is coming, and we must warn the people. Church membership isn’t enough to escape the destruction that’s coming upon the earth, the heart of man must be conformed to the word of God, the body of mankind must have the Spirit of the living God residing in them (But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his – Romans 8:9). Notice the words, if the Spirit of God dwells in you, indicates it’s more to it than just confessing Jesus is the Son of God, there must be an inner assurance of God’s truth, where there will be an inner conviction concerning the things of God to the obedience of  His written word and the will of God.

Faith is believing what you don’t see. Noah didn’t see the flood, but he believed what God informed him and followed His instructions. God has given us His written word with instructions, and we must follow the instructions if we want to be partakers of heaven.
