A Habitation For God

The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation; my Father’s God and I will exalt him (Exodus 15:2).

The children of Israel had been delivered from Pharaoh and the Egyptians; they had seen the finger of God move in their deliverance. They saw the plagues God had performed; plagues of blood, frogs, lice, flies. A plague on the cattle, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the death of the firstborn. They seen the Red Sea opened up and they walked through on dry land, they saw their enemies drowned in the Red Sea. Moses song “The Lord is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation: He is my God, and I will prepare Him a habitation; my father’s God and I will exalt Him”. Moses knew if it had not been for the mercy and grace of God, he wouldn’t have been able to carry out the mission God had given him. He knew salvation was given to him by the Lord. The Egyptians desired death for them but God desired life for them.  No matter what your enemies may desire for you, God’s desires for you are greater. Weapons formed against you shall not prosper. Ditches dug for you, shall not be filled. Words spoken against you shall fall to the ground and not be manifested.

Moses knew who his God was and what He could do, this was God’s redemption at the Red Sea. Moses had heard about the goodness and the greatness of God, but during the Egyptians experience, he had a chance to see God for himself. You see, we can tell people about God, but until they actually have an encounter with Him they will never be able to understand what we say about Him. Because of the love and gratefulness Moses had for his redemption, he made a vow he would prepare God a habitation. He would present himself as a living sacrifice, spirit, soul, and body. Moses knew he couldn’t serve any other god, but the true and living God. He couldn’t serve the god the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites were serving; in other words the gods the surrounding people were serving. Many Christians are trying to live according to the worlds’ standards and think they will not be spiritually affected by their decisions (Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” – 2nd Corinthians 6:17).

Christians are looking, touching, tasting, and hearing things they shouldn’t be engaged in as Christians. Preachers aren’t preaching against sin, they preach what would satisfy the congregation. Yes, Jesus loves you, and nothing can separate the love God has for you, but did you know although God loves you; God has given each of us a choice to where we will spend eternity? The choice of living you choose now will decide where you will spend eternity (For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad – 2nd Corinthians 5:10). There should be a difference between a Christian and the unbeliever; if we’re doing everything their doing; looking, touching, tasting, hearing, and going where they go this indicates there has not been a spiritual change in us.

Next time you’re in church, check yourself while the praises are high; if you’re not feeling His presence this also indicates you’re not sensitive to His Spirit because of your lifestyle. God will not dwell in an unclean temple; His temple should be clean, spirit, soul and body. The temple is something we have to work on daily, our flesh is something we have to fight against daily. Our flesh desires nothing of the things of God, it will cause us to do things that appease the flesh and our spirit left dry and the dryness on the inside reflects on the outside. When you see people jumping and shouting; the world and carnal Christians would say were too emotionally, this isn’t emotions, its gratefulness! We’re thankful the test or the trial didn’t destroy our faith, it didn’t destroy our life. We’re thankful, God brought us out and what we went through and is not appearing on our face or tone of voice.

When you’re thankful, you don’t need singing or music, all you have to do is think of the goodness of the Lord, all you have to do is think about that last test and trial He brought you through and praise will begin to flow! Where the Spirit of the Lord is indwelling, is a flow of living waters. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit will help you praise God no matter what you may in or what you may be going through because the Holy Spirit will agree with your spirit; Greater is He that lives in you than he that lives in the world. Greater is He that lives in you than what you’re going through!

The Father and the Son wants to make your physical body their home; but in order for them to come, you must submit to the written Word of God (Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he would keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode (home) with him – John 14:23). No, we can’t literally see them coming into our being, but if they are residing in us they will be manifested through our character, our behavior, our desires. No way they can be living in us and we haven’t changed spiritually.

If we really desire to live a life that will be pleasing to God, all we have to do is ask. When we ask the Father to assist us to live according to His instructions, He will grant the request. We have to submit to God’s Word if we want the benefits of His spoken and written Word.  God is greater than any employer, if we want the raise, if we want the promotions, then we submit to the employer’s request; well it’s the same thing with God if we want the benefits without the wrath of God.  You see God, will bless you whether you’re a believer or unbeliever because the nature of God is love, but when the day of the Lord comes all those who were blessed and are unbelievers as well as those who confess to be Christians but their lifestyle is opposite of the Word of God will receive the wrath of God.

We build a habitation for God through submitting our entire spirit, soul, and body to Him. Then we continue to feed our spirit man through reading and studying the Word of God. What we put in our mind goes into our spirit, heart, and soul, so if we’re feeding ourselves the desires of the world, our actions and desires will be that of the world. But when we feed ourselves with the Word of God, His Word cleanses our soul, and our actions will be that of what the Word of God has produced.  God wants His Holy Spirit to dwell in you, will you allow your physical body to be His habitation?
