Reverence

Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil – Ecclesiastes 5:1.

The church is a place where we go to worship God in unity with other believers, but sometimes our reverence for God isn’t as it should be. We come to church late, when we get there we don’t follow the instructions of the ushers or worshiper leaders. We come to church with our cell phones on, texting and checking Facebook and other social media. Some of us even wear our Bluetooth while sitting in service. When we do such things, we are dishonoring the house of God.

When we walk through the door and the ushers lead us to a seat, why get upset with them, why can’t we sit where they instruct us to sit since we haven’t purchased any pews? Whether we know it or not, during this time they have the authority over us, they have been placed in that position to instruct us and assist us while we’re in the house of God.  Their position is just as important as any other position in the church, a matter of fact they have the grace of God upon their life in order to follow peace with everyone with godliness without retaliating the way some Christians behave themselves in church.

If the worshiper leader is leading us into worship, and we decide we will not follow the instructions, we’re in rebellion as well as division. The Spirit of God will not enter a house of worshiper where there is division and rebellion. When we enter into the house of God, we should always keep in mind, this is God’s dwelling place and when we enter, we should enter in with reverence and praise. Worshiper leaders are trying to usher us into the presence of God, we should be following their instructions.  We come to church to worshiper and to have an encounter with God; when we’re in rebellion, God does not like it; the Bible says this is as the sin of witchcraft (For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry – 1st Samuel 15:23).

The Sanctuary is not a place where we come to make friends and conversate, this should be done in the appropriate place of the church. The Sanctuary has been dedicated to God, for His entrance, the place where He dwells, and we should reverence Him when we enter. We should leave our worldly actions on the outside when we come into the house of God. Just as we want people to respect and honor our house so does God.
