God’s Promises

2nd Corinthians 1:20 – For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of  God by us.

Promise – An agreement to do or not do something.

Throughout the Bible, God has given promises to the believer as well as the unbeliever. The believers are those that have been born of God’s Spirit.  I say born-again, because in today’s society, the majority of the people you ask are they a believer or saved,  the answer would be yes. The problem with this is that their, life-style and character is not reflecting the Bible. Whether we’re a believer or an unbeliever, God has given promises for both.

As  Christians, we have to study the Word of God to understand what the promises are, and then stand on the promise no matter what it looks like. Just as God has made promises, you can count on Satan to hinder, block or keep you from receiving your promise.

Jesus instructed His disciples then and now to ask (John 14:13 – And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.).   Whatsoever doesn’t mean we ask God for something that isn’t consistent to the Word of God!  Neither should we pray over someone else’s will. An example of this, you’re praying for a spouse, although the person doesn’t show an interest or desire to be married, but you continually pray for them to be your spouse. Your prayer will not be answered because you’re praying against a persons’ will.

The Word of God does not contradict itself, but we do have to use wisdom when we’re praying and believing God to answer our prayers. Although God has stated in His Word, He will heal us, it wouldn’t be wise to have high blood pressure or some type of sickness and refuse to receive medical assistance. Sometimes people don’t receive physical healing, but prior to them dying they received spiritual healing.  When we’re dealing with something that is detrimental to our health, we need to get a affirmation, and confirmation from God before we reject medical assistance.

The Bible states, God’s people are destroyed because of the lack of  knowledge because they rejected knowledge (Hosea 4:6). God will let you know with a certainty in your heart and spirit what to do, that’s your affirmation and confirmation. God doesn’t speak to us through our emotions, but to our heart and spirit. If God doesn’t give you a confirmation or affirmation about what you’re praying for, go to the doctor, take the medication prescribed.  It’s God that gave man wisdom to assist our physical bodies and minds to function the way He created them to function. Although you may not receive divine healing, you are still receiving healing through the wisdom God has given man.

God’s Word must be engraved in our hearts and spirit, if not, we will begin to worry. Worry is the opposite of faith. We don’t deny what we may be going through, but we don’t let the situation get more of our attention than God. You see, Satan doesn’t care how he can be magnified, as long as he can get some recognition. If we’re in fear, anxiety, worry, doubt and unbelief then we’re glorifying  Satan when the glory should be going to God. God has promised,”He will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him”.  This doesn’t mean we ignore what’s happening, but we realize the God we serve is greater than the situation were in and because He’s greater, we will place our confidence in God and not the problem.

Whenever you get anxious and worried until you’re numb, know that’s Satan working in your emotions and mind. Acknowledge the situation, pray and ask God for strength, wisdom and knowledge of what to or  not to do in the situation.  Ask for peace, so that you can hear from God. You can’t hear from God when your thoughts are going in different directions. Your mind needs to be at peace so you can hear God whether its through His Spirit or the the Bible. I once heard a  minister say, “If you can’t hear from God, then read Him (the Bible)”.

God has promised “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly”.  If something is being held from us, we need to pray and ask,  if what we’re asking for is in the will of God.  A saint should not desire God’s permissive will, but God’s perfect will. God’s permissive will is, God will allow you to have it because of His love for you, but His perfect will wasn’t for you to have it or to do it.

Saints are going through, whether its in our family, finances, physical bodies or marriage.  Satan is trying to destroy the faith of the saints, because Satan knows without faith, we cannot please God.  God never allows anything to come into our life to destroy us, but with the situation, make it work together for our good. It may seem as though its going to destroy you, but it will only destroy what needs to be destroyed in our lives.

God’s Word is true, His love for us is everlasting. Search the Scriptures, in them you will find life, hope, deliverance, strength, peace. To every need there is an answer and a promise from God in His Holy Word, the Bible.
