And she named the child Ichabod (Where Is the glory), saying the glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father-in-law and her husband – 1st Samuel 4:21).
The Philistines fought against Israel and thirty thousand footmen died, those who survived fled into their tent and the ark of God was taken. Eli who was a prophet was sitting by the city gate anxiously awaiting news of the battle when he heard that the ark had been taken he fell from off his seat backward and his neck broke. When his daughter-in-law, Phinehas wife heard about her husband and her father-in-law was dead she went into labor. As she was giving birth, she named the child Ichabod meaning “Where Is the glory”.
The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Isaiah 24:5.
Not only the people suffered from their sins, even the land suffered from bad crops, and crime. Today we see the results of sin in our own land, pollution, crime, and poverty. Sin affects every aspect of society so extensively that even those faithful to God suffer. We can’t blame God for these conditions because human sin has brought them about. The more believers that renounce sin and share God’s Word with others, the more we slow down our society’s deterioration.
But the natural man receiveth not (does not understand) the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (understood) – 1st Corinthians 2:14).
Science has spent millions of dollars to develop the physical body of man, additional millions have been spent developing man’s intellectual processes which is a part of his soul. Nothing has been spent on how to develop the spirit of man. The spirit of man is just as important as the physical body and the intellect.
So shall my words be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it – Isaiah 55:11.
It’s a blessing to those who seek the Lord, the promise of God is, if we seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him. Seeking God is through prayer, meditation, reading and studying the Bible. Giving ourselves a fast, reading books that will increase our knowledge of Him.
The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms (harlotry) and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord – Hosea 1:2
Marriage is ordained by God and illustrates His relationship with His people. There is perhaps no greater tragedy, therefore, than the violation of those sacred vows. God instructed Hosea to find a wife, and told him ahead of time that she would be unfaithful to him. Gomer may have been morally pure prior to her marriage to Hosea, but became discontented and went into harlotry.
