The Cross

Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me – Matthew 16:24.

Jesus instructed His disciples in order to follow Him, they would have to deny themselves, they would have to crucify themselves by yielding to the lordship of Jesus over them. Following Jesus is true commitment, the risk of death and no turning back. The disciples were aware of what the cross meant, they knew crucifixion was a common Roman method of execution, and condemned criminals had to carry their crosses through the streets to the execution site. Death Defined

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me – Psalm 23:4.

Death is the state of being dead, it’s a loss of life, and it can be physical, emotional, mental, relational and financially. Each of us will experience death in any one of these categories at one time or another, but when death comes and however it comes, the Lord will always be there to walk us through it. Read More

Faith In Him

But now is made manifest and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith – Romans 16:26.

Jerusalem was the center of Jewish life, Rome was the world’s political, religious, social and economic center. The major governmental decisions were made, and from there the Gospel spread to the ends of the earth. The church in Rome was a cosmopolitan mixture of Jews, Gentiles, slaves, free people, men, women, Roman citizens, and world travelers. Just as Rome was of a cosmopolitan mixture of different nationalities, we too live in a cosmopolitan setting with the entire world open to us. We as Christians should be focused on winning souls.
