Count Your Blessings

My soul, praise the Lord, and all that is within me, praise His holy name. My soul, praise the Lord and do not forget all His benefits. He forgives all your sin, He heals all your disease. He redeems your life from the pit. He crowns you with faithful love and compassion. He satisfies you with goodness, your youth is renewed like the eagle – Psalm 103:1-5.

Life keeps us busy, and sometimes even as Christians, we forget to be thankful for the blessings the Lord has placed upon us and our families. Truthfully, most of us spend more time talking about what we do not have instead of giving thanks to God for what we do have. The Bible instructs the believer not to forget the benefits the Lord has given us, and what are His benefits?

Benefit Number One – God has forgiven our iniquities. This is the most crucial benefit of all. Through the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, our sins have been forgiven. We are no longer separated from God. Even after accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, there will be times when we make mistakes and sin in word, deed, or thought.

God is merciful and so gracious to forgive us of all our sins, not just some of them when we confess our sins (If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanses us from all unrighteousness – 1st John 1:9. We must be truthful to God and ourselves when we have gone against His written instructions if we want forgiveness. Now, once He has forgiven us, it does not mean we continue in sin and continue to ask for forgiveness.

Benefit Number Two – God heals our diseases. God is the source of all healing, whether through divine healing or by using medical professionals to intervene and assist with our healing. Some teach that taking medication is not trusting God, which is biblically incorrect. It was God who gave man the knowledge to create medications to heal or to relieve pain.

Benefit Number Three – God redeems our lives from destruction. When we were dead in our trespasses and sins, Jesus Christ redeemed us from spiritual death. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we became spiritually alive and were made a new creation in Christ. When salvation is received from the heart and not by emotions, the person has a changed life. He or she will not continue to practice sin because Jesus gives the believer the ability to control their bodies from whatever temptation Satan tries to use to influence them.

God gives us benefits daily; all we have to do is accept them and appreciate them. There is no place or anything that happens that God is not aware of or is taken by surprise. God Himself places His angels in charge of us to keep and guard us. We’re never alone, and we can always depend on Jesus interceding to the Father on our behalf. Always keep a grateful heart, knowing you’re life is in the hands of the Father!

When we begin to think about the blessings God has given us, we can’t count them; they are uncountable. Every day we wake up, it’s a blessing. Waking up with a sound mind when others woke up and aren’t conscious of who they are and where they are.

Being able to shower yourself without assistance from others. Having the activity of your joints when others are walking with canes, walkers, and help from others. Able to feed yourself when others need someone to feed them. Homes to live in when others are homeless, we are blessed, and we need to be grateful for His many blessings!
