Light of the World

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

God created a people who would represent Him on earth. He did this by sending His Son, Jesus who died to reconcile us back to the Father. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to live in us to comfort us, be our helper, and counselor.Whether you know it or not, as a professing Christians were supposed to be light to a dark world. Christians are supposed to be different from those who say they aren’t Christians or professing atheists and agnostics.  When we have truly received Jesus as Lord and Savior; our behavior changes our thoughts and desires changes to the things that please God and not our fleshly desires.  Fleshly desires are not always sexual, fleshly desires can be always thinking of oneself and not others. It could be never having time to spend time in the things that will give you spiritual growth such as prayer, reading and studying God’s Word.  Believe it or not, you can’t grow spiritually just be attending church on whatever given day that has been set aside for your church to worship.

We have to know the Word of God for ourselves, not just when it comes over the pulpit. When trials and tribulations and life issues come, the pastor will not be there with you, but when you have feasted on the Word of God, it becomes a part of you, so whatever, comes into your life, you can depend on the Word of God that resides in you.  This is why Jesus instructed His disciples then and now if the Word of God abides in us, we can ask for whatever we want and it will be given us (If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you – John 15:7).  When the Word of God abides in us, we will not ask for anything that is contrary the Word of God. We will ask only for the things that coincide with His Word.

God empowers His people to live according to His Word when they are willing to submit themselves to His Word.  Although Apostle Paul is making the request, He’s only instructing the believer to live according to what will please God (I Beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable, unto God which is your reasonable service – Romans 12:1).  We can’t be a light to the world (people) when we live the same lifestyle as they do. God’s Word comes out of our mouth with power, when we live according to what we’re ministering to others.  We can’t be gossipers, backbiters, finger pointing Christians and think the Word of God will have an effect on others when we have made the Word of God come ineffective (Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition which ye have delivered and many such life thine do ye – Mark 7:13).  Traditions of living according to our desires, according to false teachers teaching can make our profession and words spoken be ineffective to unbelievers.

Light shines in darkness it gives a clear path to walk without stumbling over things and objects.  This is what the Word of God does for the believer when we live according to the Word of God, we will not make others stumbling because of our lifestyle.  God has given us wisdom both for the natural and spiritual and empowering us to live according to the Word of God. One cannot resist Satan if he or she is submitting themselves to Satan by living opposite of what the Word of God has instructed every Christian to live by. Christianity is not by denomination, but our submission to God’s Word. God is not physically coming to earth, this is why He placed His Spirit within every born-again Christian. Our lifestyle and behavior should be that of the Father, we should love as  He loves people and we should hate sin as He hates the sin, but not the individual. We should be different from those that haven’t received the Spirit of God. People should see a difference in our behavior and character. We are in this world, but we’re not of the world, so we should be representing our Father as the ambassadors of Christ.
