Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy – Exodus 20:8.

The law of the Ten Commandments is a law of God’s making. It is a law of His own speaking, this law that was given through the Ten Commandments was prior to God placing His laws in the hearts and minds of His people. To remember is intimated that the Sabbath was instituted and observed before, but while the Israelites were in bondage, in Egypt they failed to observe it. Some observe the Sabbath as being Saturday while others believe its on Sunday. The seventh day of the week, observed as a day of rest in the Israelite and Jewish religions. Inasmuch as every new day was considered to begin with sunset, the Sabbath begins with the sunset of Friday evening. Remembering the Sabbath was the fourth commandment, it was the special sign of the covenant with Israel at Mt. Sinai. With this commandment, God set Israel apart from its neighbors. Other people had their own various patterns of work and rest, but Israel was to set aside one day in seven for rest. The word Sabbath means rest, the day was to be kept holy by ceasing all labor on that day. The Sabbath was specifically the seventh day, Saturday. It was patterned after the seventh day of rest for God following the six days of creation.

The Sabbath regulations of the Old Testament are intended mainly to reinforce the provision of that day as a day of rest. The prohibition of work allows no distinction between seasons; even in harvest time, the Sabbath was to be observed. The Sabbath was both a sign of a time for remembering the distinct relationship between Yahweh and the people of Israel. Sabbath is to be a time when the worshipers of God are gathered. Because of misinterpretation of Scripture, some religion believes if one observes the Sabbath any other day than Saturday, then it’s paganism.

In the synagogues, the Sabbath became a time for teaching directed to the whole community. With the emerging Christian observance of worship on the first day of the week (Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut were the disciples were assembled for the fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you – John 20:19). This was Sunday evening of the Resurrection, and Jesus appeared to His disciples as they were assembled together. Although they were fearful of the Jews, they were assembling together and it wasn’t a social gathering.

Many have been pulled into false religion because of the word “Sabbath”, and this is what the Colossians were doing rather than accepting the completed work Jesus has fulfilled. The false teachers in Colossae were tempting the Colossians to bind themselves with the outward observance of Judaism, such as the Jewish dietary restrictions. Apostle Paul warns the believers in Colossae as well as today’s believers not to let others bind them to regulations from which Christ has already freed them (Let no man therefore judge you in meat {food} or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days – Colossians 2:16).

Many have engaged in a false religion as well as living opposite of the teaching of the Bible because they will not take the time to read and study the Bible. The instructions of the Bible is for the believer, and it’s for us to follow. Pray, read and study the Bible, it’s to the benefit of the believer to know and submit to the Word of God. Every day is holy, because it’s the day that the Lord has made and each day should be governed with respect of the Lord and the Word of God.  Just in like in Biblical times, false teachers crept in and was leading the people away from God and His doctrine, so it is in today’s era.

There is a doctrine that indicates people no longer have to repent of their sins because it was completed at the Cross; another doctrine teaches there is no hell. People of God this is the signs of the time of Jesus to be returning after His church. Not with just false doctrines but events happening all around the world. Repenting is for the believer as well as the non-believer if they want their sins forgiven. To repent is to no longer commit the actions, its a turning away from the things God has instructed that is a sin to Him. With a true repenting heart the individual will admit to their sins and ask forgiveness.

Every day is the Lord’s and it should be reverenced as holy. There is no certain day we set aside as holy day. Take time read and study your Bible, ask God to give you understanding and revelation of His Word, there is no private interpretation, He wants you to know His Word so you can submit to His teaching. There are many translations of the Bible, be watchful, every Bible is not the true teaching of the Word of God. One of the oldest translations of the Bible is the King James, and it’s through its translations many understood the Word of God, submitted to the Word of God and they became born-again Christians.
