A Day of Thanksgiving

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9)

Jonah the prophet of God was ordered by God to go to Nineveh to relay the Word of God against their wickedness, but Jonah knew that God was a God who would forgive them and he didn’t want to go; so rather than doing what God had instructed him to do, he made a detour to Joppa and boarded a ship to Tarshish to keep from following the instructions God had given him.

His disobedient cause him to be thrown into the sea and through God’s love and mercy God sent a great fish to swallow Jonah. While in the belly of the fish, Jonah came to his spiritual senses and begin to thank God even though he was in a situation where a praise may not have been in his heart, but yet he gave the sacrifice of thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a day celebrated throughout the world with believers as well as unbelievers. We get together with our families and friends and is thankful for having them in our lives and in our family. We take the time and examine our lives and is thankful for many of the situations and circumstances we came through without losing their minds, losing our homes, jobs, business, and family; whether some aren’t giving the honor to God many are thankful!

You may have things going on in your life that are hard for you to say, “Thank you”, but if you can think about the compassion God has for you in not allowing the enemy of your soul as well as others to destroy you, you may be able to say “Thank you”.  Every day should be a day of Thanksgiving when God bless you to wake up in the soundness of mind, that’s a Thank you when you roll out of bed and not a cardboard box, that’s a Thank you. When you walk into your bathroom and have the privacy you need without having to find a store to do what you need to do, that’s a Thank you. When you look into your refrigerator and there is food there, that’s’ a Thank you. When you may have a pain here and there, that’s a Thank you; because there are many in pain and in a coma not aware they are in pain. When you walk around and basically do what you desire to do without assistance, that’s a thank you. When you can look into the mirror and see your reflection, that’s a thank you.

When you can look forward to a paycheck, that’s a Thank you, if you’re looking for a monthly check, that’s a Thank you because there are many who have no income coming in at all. When you can breathe and not need an oxygen tank, that’s a Thank you. Every day should be a day of Thanksgiving! Our gratitude shouldn’t just be on the day we celebrate Thanksgiving, it should be every day we’re allowed to see another day!
