Count Your Blessings

My soul, praise the Lord, and all that is within me, praise His holy name. My soul, praise the Lord and do not forget all His benefits. He forgives all your sin, He heals all your disease. He redeems your life from the Pit. He crowns you with faithful love and compassion. He satisfies you with goodness, your youth is renewed like the eagle – Psalm 103:1-5.

Life keeps us busy, and sometimes even as Christians, we forget to be thankful for the blessings the Lord has placed upon us and our family. Truthfully, most of us spend more time talking about what we do not have instead of giving thanks to God for what we do have. The Bible instructs the believer to not forget the benefits the Lord has given us, and what is His benefits?

Benefit Number One – God has forgiven our iniquities. This is the most important benefit of all. Through the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, our sins have been forgiven. We are no longer separated from God. Even after accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, there will be times when we make mistakes and sin in word, deed, or thought. God is merciful and so gracious to forgive us of all our sins, not just some of them when we confess our sins (If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanses us from all unrighteousness – 1st John 1:9. We must be truthful to God and ourselves when we have gone against His written instructions if we want forgiveness. Now once He has forgiven us does not mean we continue in the sin and continue to ask for forgiveness.

Benefit Number Two – God heals our diseases, God is the source of all healing whether it’s through divine healing or He uses medical professionals to intervene and assist with our healing. Some teach that taking medication is not trusting God which is Biblical incorrect. It was God who gave man the knowledge to make a medication to heal or to assist the body from having pain.

Benefit Number Three – God redeems our life from destruction. When we were dead in our trespasses and sins, Jesus Christ redeemed us from spiritual death. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we became spiritually alive and were made a new creation in Christ. When salvation is accepted from the heart and not by emotions, the person has a changed life. He or she will not continue to practice sin because Jesus gives the believer the ability to control their bodies from whatever temptation Satan tries to use to influence them.

God gives us benefits daily, all we have to do is accept them, and appreciate them. There is no place or anything that happens that God is not aware of or is taken by surprise. God, Himself places His angels in charge over us to keep us or to guard us. We’re never alone and we can always depend on Jesus interceding to the Father on our behalf. Always keep a grateful heart, knowing you’re life is in the hands of the Father!
