Let no man deceive you with vain (empty) words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience – Ephesians 5:6.
We are a chosen generation according to the Word of God, a peculiar people. God has saved us for a reason. Part of that reason is to shine the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that others may be saved. The second reason we’re saved so that we may have a special relationship with God, our Father. There are many scripture promises in the Bible not only to receive the blessings of God, but to also to receive the wrath of God when we live in disobedience of the Word of God.
God has never abandoned His children when they have been disobedient, but there are repercussions to a lack of faith, which results in disobedience. When God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt, He sent Moses to deliver them. While they were being delivered, they complained and murmured against Moses. When they were near the Promised Land, Moses sent scouts into the Promise Land. They returned and reported that the land was beautiful, but there were giants in the land. There were twelve sent to scout the land, but it was only two that returned with a good report. The other ten were afraid and didn’t believe they could take the land although God had promised them the land. They gave the report of doubt and unbelief which caused the other people to doubt and have lack of faith.
Although the land was promised to them because of a lack of faith they wandered in the wilderness for forty years, it should have only took them forty days, but their lack of faith caused them to miss their blessings. After losing their blessings, you would think they would have returned wholeheartedly to God. While Moses was in the mountain, receiving the Ten Commandments written with the hand of God, because Moses delayed in returning to the camp they ask Aaron to build them a god to go before them because they didn’t know what happened to Moses. They made a golden calf and began to worship the golden calf and practiced the abomination of the Canaanites who worshipped the god Baal and his consort Ashtoreth which consisted of illicit and immoral sexual activity.
Because of their idolatry many of them didn’t enter into the promise land. Just as the Hebrews were a chosen generation, we too have been called of God as a chosen generation.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. – 1st Peter 2:9
We can’t live as an unbeliever and enter into the Promise Land which is heaven. God has given us a commandment just as He did with the children of Israel, and His instructions are in His written Word. We must read His Word and apply His Word to our life daily. Many don’t read the Bible because they say they don’t understand it. If we ask for revelation of the Word of God, He will give us revelation. If we don’t have a desire to adhere to His Word, if we ask for a desire to be placed in our hearts to adhere to the Word, He will place the desire there because we’re willing to obey His word. Don’t lose out in going to the Promise Land because of disobedience. Read the Word of God, and apply it to your life daily.
