Study (be diligent) to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth – 2nd Timothy 2:15.

People are very prone to strive about words, and such strifes end in shaking some and subverting others. Workmen that are unskilful or unfaithful or lazy have to need to be ashamed, but those who mind their business, and keep to their work are workmen that need not be ashamed. And what is their work? Not to invent a new gospel, but rightly to divide the gospel that is committed to their trust.A workman isn’t just for those called to the ministerial positions, but every professing Christian should know the Word of God and its interpretation. The way of erroring in the Word of God is wide-spread through different denominations. The erroring in the Word of God is like an infectious disease, it spreads, and it leads others into doctrine error. If we look at the Old Testament where the error begins just in how we are instructed what God we should serve will see where the error of doctrine begins. The Children of Israel had been enslaved in Egypt for four hundred and thirty years. During their slavery, they learned the customs and practices of the Egyptians.  When they were delivered from slavery, God gave them Moses as their leader to teach them the laws of God. The reason why they continued to fall in sin although they had been delivered they were accustomed to living according to the Egyptians and the surrounding nations (After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after doings of the land of Canaan whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances – Leviticus 18:3). 

They were warned not to serve other gods (Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them – Deuteronomy 11:16).  God knew the Israelites would be influenced to worship other gods just as the people today are inclined to worship pagan gods rather than the true God.  We learn by hearing, actions seen and written instructions whether it’s through the Bible or other literature. Sadly, to say, most people will accept religion rather than true Christianity when there is no commitment involved on their behalf. Most gods of religion don’t require the participant to live as they do but require religious actions, such as how many times to pray, where they can pray, what to wear ad what not to wear. Restrictions of holidays and so forth. The God of creation is holy and His instructions for His people is to live as He does (For I sam the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping things that creepeth upon the earth – Leviticus 11:44). These instructions weren’t just geared to the children of Israel, but for everyone, that is professing they serve God.

The Law of God wasn’t abolished, if we study the Ten Commandments, all of them are in the two commandments Jesus gave (Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself – Matthew 22:37-39). There is only one God, and His instructions are for all of His creation; but how can we apply God’s Word to our life if we don’t know it? Studying the Word of God isn’t just for ministers, but it is for all those who say they serve God. Every one of us is held accountable for knowing God’s Word and applying it to our life, we can’t go by how we see others live and professing to be Christians, but only by the Word of God. Read the Bible, study it, and ask God to help you to apply His instructions to your life.
