Who Are You Being Submissive To?

Esther 3:5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

Mordecai was the guardian of Esther, who was selected to succeed Vashti as queen of Ahasuerus, king of Persia. Mordecai was an officer at the king’s court,  he sat at the king’s gate daily after Esther became queen. Haman who was an Agagite and Prime minister of King Ahasuerus was angry with Mordecai because he wouldn’t bow or reverence him.  Mordecai was a Jew, and Jews customarily bowed before their kings, but in Persia, kings and their chief officials were reverenced as divine beings.

Mordecai wouldn’t allow himself to reverence Haman in such a way that would place Haman as a god. One of the Ten Commandments is ” Thou shall have none other gods before me”.  Mordecai knew the Word of God and he kept the Word of God by standing up and not denying his faith.  As Christians, we should be familiar with the Word of God and willing to come subject to the Word of God.  Too many Christians don’t take the time to read or study the Word of God in order for them to have knowledge of the Bible. Rather than reading the Bible for themselves, they will rely on their pastor or other ministers to teach or preach to them. God holds each of us responsible for reading, studying and knowing His instructions (Revelation 1:3 – Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand).

In order to be a doer of the Word, we must first know the Word of God, and the only way we’re going to know the Word is the preaching and teaching of the Word and our personal time spent in the Word reading and studying it for ourselves. When a teacher, teaches their student, the teachers isn’t promoted to a higher grade, but the student when he or she can reproduce what they have been taught, its the same way in the Spirit.  Ministers aren’t promoted for what they minister, but if the recipient listens and follows the instructions of the minister, they will grow at different levels of maturity in the Spirit. In school before taking a test, the student would have to read the material they were to be tested on, they were given notice of what the test would be on. Whether you know it or not, we’re being tested on a daily basis and we have been given notice of the test, we have been given a spiritual manual to read in order to pass the test.

We have “Haman’s” on our job, schools, churches and in our homes. The test is, will we bow? Sometimes managers will ask their workers to lie for them, students cheating on their tests, clicks or groups in the churches, watching different entertainment with our families that deny the Christian faith. We discriminate certain Christians because they may not be in our denomination. Denominations didn’t come by way of God, but by man. According to the Word of God, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all”. We are bowing when we discriminate. We’re bowing when we hate people and not the sin they practice. God hates no one and neither should we.

We’re bowing to sin when we practice sin such as hatred, envying, unforgiving, jealousy, fear, uncontrollable anger, lying, cheating, stealing, fornication, adultery, it’s all in the Word of God. It’s funny how some Christians, can quote lyrics to secular songs, but can’t quote one Scripture that comes from the Bible. Who are you bowing to, is it God or Satan? Are you looking down on others because they may not be as strong in the faith as you are? Are you belittling others because they may not have a high school diploma or degree? Are you discriminating them because you may live in a home whereas they live in an apartment? Maybe they are on welfare or disability and you’re salaried, are you making a difference?

Are you bowing to yourself? Everything revolves around you, it has to be your way or no way. If you don’t sing, the song can’t be song. If you don’t minister, the congregation really haven’t received the Word.  We all need to ask ourselves, what Haman are we bowing to, if we look hard enough, the Holy Spirit will show us. There is nothing that can separate God’s love for us, but what has separated us from loving Him? Whoever or whatever we submit ourseleves to is our god.

God’s Son is on His way back sooner than we think, are you prepared for his return? Attending church and quoting Scriptures but not being submitted to them is just as bad as being an unbeliever. It’s not about what we think, but what God’s Word has instructed us to live by as professing Christians. (Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty-2nd Corithians 6:17-18).
