From the Prison to the Palace

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck. And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. – Genesis 41:41-43

Joseph was the eleventh son of Jacob and the oldest of Rachel, his favored wife. Joseph was born to a formally barren woman to whom God had shown compassion. Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams and his administrative gifts were to have dramatic consequences for his life in Egypt earning him the confidence of the Pharaoh and as result high position.

Before Joseph was placed in the palace and became Prime Minister, Joseph went through hardship. Originally, Joseph lived with his parents and siblings. His ten brothers were jealous of Joseph because he was a dreamer. God dwelt with Joseph in dreams, as God gave him dreams, he would tell his brothers and they became very jealousy of him because they knew Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son; and felt Joseph was telling them about dreams of him having lordship over them.

Their jealousy caused them to place him in a pit, their conscious bothered them, so they sold Joseph to Midianites merchants and they sold him to Egypt to an officer by the name of Potiphar. Although Joseph was in a strange land with people of a different beliefs, he honored God by his lifestyle and God was with Joseph and he was successful. God also gave him favor with Potiphar. Potiphar gave him authority to rule over everything Potiphar possessed.

One day when Joseph came into Potiphar’s home, Potiphar’s wife caught Joseph by his garment, she had been stalking him for days, but this day no one was there but her and Joseph, and she tried to influence him to commit adultery, but Joseph loved God and honored her husband. He ran out the house, and she lied on him, and Potiphar placed him in prison. While in prison, God gave him favor with the guards. While in prison the butler and the baker had a dream and told Joseph, he interpreted the dreams, and they manifested as he informed them. The baker was hanged and the butler was placed back in his position.

Pharaoh had a dream and none of the wise men or magicians could interpret the dream, the butler remember Joseph and told Pharaoh about him. Pharaoh released Joseph from the prison, Joseph interpreted the dream and Joseph was made ruler over Egypt.

Joseph went through many hardship prior to being ruler of Egypt. As Christians, we’re on a spiritual journey, and there are many hardships we will go through before we come to the end of the journey. In traveling there will be goods days and there will be days of hardship, but our good days will outweigh our bad days. If we stay committed to God and His written Word, God will give us favor wherever we are and whatever we may be going through.

Some may be in an emotional prison, financial prison, marital prison, physical prison Whatever the prison maybe, trust God, submit to His Word, and God will bring you out with victory. He will release you from prison and give you dominion as kings and priests because you are a chosen generation.

Just because Christians are chosen by God does not mean they will not go through hardship. Hardship causes one to run to God, it causes one to trust in God. It causes one to submit to God’s written Word, and most of all it causes one to have a good relationship with the Father. Whatever you’re at on your journey to the Promise Land, don’t give up, don’t give in, submit to God and He will exalt you in the time He has appointed for you.
