How to Develop Your Spirit

But the natural man receiveth not (does not understand)  the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (understood)  1st Corinthians 2:14).

Science has spent millions of dollars to develop man’s physical body; additional millions have been spent developing man’s intellectual processes, which are part of his soul. Nothing has been spent on how to create  the spirit of man. The spirit of man is just as important as the physical body and the intellect.

Man’s spirit can be educated and improved just as his mind can be educated and improved. The spirit can be trained and built up just as the body can be built up, you may ask the question how? Through the study of God’s Word.

We can’t understand spiritual things with our natural minds. Our minds must be changed, renewed and transformed by the Word of God. The Word of God was given by the Spirit of God (All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished [equipped] unto all good works – 2nd Timothy 3:16-17). This is why the natural man can’t understand God’s Word, the Bible can only be understood with the heart, we must get the revelation of it in our spirit. Only God can change the heart and His Word will change the mind.

Once a person is born-again and become a child of God, they can understand the Bible and can learn spiritual things. Many are professing to be Christians, but their spiritual nature hasn’t changed (Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new – 2nd Corinthians 5:17).  New converts should be instructed to find a place of worship and instructed to read their Bibles daily, this also applies to people who are professing to be Christians for years, but haven’t grown spiritually.

This process of reading daily is a way of building up ones spirit as well as transforming the mind to the Word of God. When we have been born-again and have the nature of God (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance abiding within us, we can develop our spirit to higher levels of worship and service to God.

True Christians are looked as emotional, but yet, people can attend basket ball games, football, secular concerts and hoop, holler, jump around for their teams or entertainer but because Christians jump and shout for their Creator, their emotional. These same people will attend church, and you will not see an reaction from them from the singing or preaching.

Man is tripartite being, spirit, the part of man who deals with the spiritual realm; soul the part of man who deals with the mental realm his reasoning and intellectual powers and the body, the part of man who deals with the physical realm ( And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and souls and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ – 1st Thessalonians 5:23). So this Scripture is informing the believer the whole man must be submitted to God.

God holds us responsible for learning His Word and adhering to it, there will be no excuse when we stand before Him for the reason we didn’t take the time to learn His Word. Satan doesn’t want us to know the Word of God and when we don’t know, we can’t follow the instructions which can cause one to be hell bound because they haven’t submitted to the Word of God.

As Christians, we must know the Word of God and we must adhere to it body, soul and spirit. We take time to do everything else except building up ourselves in the Word of God, the Word that will give instructions, peace, directions, integrity, and the insurance for when we die. Get knowledge of the Word of God, read it daily, ask God to give you revelation of His Word and help you to adhere to His Word.

Reading God’s Word is important for spiritual growth, its by the Word of God that our minds will be transformed to the things of God and not the actions of the world (And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God – Romans 12:2). When our minds are not renewed by the Word of God we will not think its nothing wrong with the things we see, hear, go and do.

Fasting makes our spirit, soul and body come subject to God’s Word. Fasting enable us to be sensitive to the Spirit and voice of God. Fasting gives us a hunger for the things of God and distaste for the things of the world.

Prayer to a Christian is as important as water to a fish. Prayer keeps us connected to God’s Spirit. It strengthen our spirit to deny self desires. Prayer enable us to pray for others; prayer builds our faith and knowledge of God. Prayer gives us a hunger and thirst after God; it gives us holy boldness, as well when we need to humble ourselves.

Christians should grow spiritually; if we don’t apply ourselves we will not grow. Rather growing spiritually, we become carnal Christians; carnal Christians are an enemy towards God (Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be – Romans 8:7). Either we will serve God or Satan, whoever we’re subject to that whose servant we are.
