But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33.
Some Christians don’t have trouble attending Sunday Worship Services, working in various capacities within the church. Still, they do struggle to make God their priority in their lives daily.
God is our heavenly Father, and just like our earthly parents, when they said do something, they meant it. Well, it’s the same with God and even more so because your breath belongs to Him! He never would have allowed it to be placed in His book of instructions if He didn’t want us to do it.
We make plans, and we never invite Him to give us counsel. We plan goals and never make one to grow more spiritually minded. So many Christians have become earth-minded rather than heavenly-minded. We desire better jobs and are not grateful for the one we have. We want new cars, and there is nothing wrong with the one we have. We want bigger homes than the one we have, and the one we have is large enough. Working overtime or working two or three jobs to have more money, but it will not increase our tithes with the increase in our income.
Our employer didn’t instruct us to pay your tithes, God did (Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it – Malachi 3:10). Some have stopped attending church so that they can pay their tithes when they want to or not pay them at all.
Anytime we fail to follow the instructions of the Word of God, there will always be consequences. We pass by the poor and needy looking for help, and we turn our heads as though they aren’t there. Yes, we do have to use caution when pulling out our wallets, but lay some aside so that when you do see someone looking for help, the money is close at hand to distribute to them (He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will He pay him again -Proverb 19:17). When we follow the instructions of the written Word then we will be blessed by God, and His blessings makes us rich and add no sorrow with it.
God will give you an unction or a prompting on who to give to or not give to. He’s very much aware there are scammers. Be sensitive to His prompting; don’t ignore it; when we do, we’re disobeying Him as well as losing the blessing we could have received by giving to those in need.
We’re placing Him first rather than holding a conversation in our minds and hearts, the reason we won’t do what He has instructed us to do. Don’t think we will have an excuse when we face Him, the reason we didn’t do it because we didn’t know it. The Bible is our instruction manual, and it’s every professing Christian’s responsibility to read, memorize Scripture, and follow the instructions.
We’re so busy seeking things and people and not seeking God in prayer, fasting, reading, and studying His Word. When we die, there will not be a bank following behind the hearse, there will be no houses, cars, and people joining us when we are laid to rest. The moment our spirit leaves our body, it’s either going to heaven or hell.
The lifestyle we live when our breath is in our body will determine where we will spend eternity. When we make Him first, we don’t dwell on what we want as much as we want to please Him. When we make Him first, we have no problem leaving the actions of the world (Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty – 2nd Corinthians 6:17-18. Either we will make Him first, or we will make Him last.
We can’t serve Him and serve the world; it’s like trying to mix oil and water, the two will never become one. Whoever we serve is who we will become one with, whether it’s God or Satan. Every day given to us is a day He has given us to make it right with Him. To do better than we did the day before.
Just as we plan goals to improve our lives, let’s set spiritual goals to enhance our lives so that when death or Jesus’ return comes, we will be in a safe place in Him. Our spiritual destiny is not to be neglected. Wherever we go after death, we will be there for eternity. Make Him first, then we will be able to know what is or what is not pleasing to Him!
Make Him first in prayer before starting your day, and end your day with prayer. Set aside time to read and study His Word. Before making decisions, ask His counsel. When you make Him first, everything else will begin to fall in place.

Make God First
