A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous (harsh) words stir up anger – Proverbs 15:1
A gentle response given to an angry person will eliminate a heated response that would fuel the flame. When one is angry, it’s heard in their voice and shown in their mannerism. Soft spoken words will bring calmness to those that is angry as well as the person given the response.
Two angry people will start a flame that will not be easily resolved without someone being hurt, mentally, emotionally or physically. Making peace or being quiet and giving a soft answer doesn’t make one passive. Following the Words of God is a strong individual. Try to argue with a whisper; it’s equally hard to argue with someone who insists on answering softly. God has instructed the believer to follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). Anger will increase anger, but a soft answer will bring peace.
