Fruit of the Spirit (Gentleness)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law – Galatians 5:22-23.

Gentleness is kindness that is manifested in an individual every time you come in contact with them. A sweetness of temper, easy to be entreated when anyone have wronged them. Gentleness is not allowing people to say or do anything they want to you, but it’s a kindness that people know and feel when they are around you and will feel at ease when they are in your presence.

As a minister of the gospel which doesn’t come by title only, but every Christian is a minister who should be capable of ministering salvation to an unbeliever. Christian’s should be humble, patient and courteous explaining the truth of God’s word. Good teaching never promotes quarrels or foolish arguments. Ministering the word of God is to never make one feel as though because they aren’t a believer that their trash or nothing.

Sin is not to be condone, but the individual shouldn’t be harmed by words or actions. People will accept salvation easier as well as their sins being confronted when drawn with love than with harsh words and actions (And the servant of the Lord must not strive [quarrel]; but be gentle unto all men, apt (able) to teach, patient. In meekness instructing [correcting] those that oppose [opposition] themselves; if repentance to the acknowledging of the truth. And that they may recover [come to their senses] themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at [to do] his will – 2nd Timothy 2:24-26).

Although we’re aware of people who is practicing sin, we should be as gentle with them as Jesus was with the woman who was caught in adultery. Jesus didn’t tell her she was trash, neither did He tell her she was going to hell, but He spoke to her with compassion, and gentleness. The Scribes and Pharisees brought this woman to Jesus to see if He was going to uphold the law. The law at that time as a sanction against behavior which threatened the stability or even the survival of the community, the Israelites imposed the death penalty. The death penalty was carried out in various ways such as stoning for idolatry, divination, disobedience toward one’s parents and adultery. After Jesus confronted her accusers, Jesus instructed her to go, and sin no more.

Many have been offended, and rejected salvation because of the way the gospel was presented to them. The Holy Spirit draws people through kindness, love, patience and compassion to the Father. Grumpy, mean, not caring about how we may harm another is not of the Father, this is not His character neither should it be in those whose professing to be Christians.  A old saying use to be “You can draw bees with honey than you can with vinegar”.

There are those whose professing to be Christians,  and people dread asking them anything because of their harsh behavior towards others, this isn’t the Spirit of God being manifested. A kind behavior is at all times even when were in the midst of one of the hardest and painful trials we’ve ever been through. Gentleness is not about what one is going in one’s life, but what is being manifested through them towards others at all times, we can only accomplish this by allowing the Holy Spirit to create the fruit to be presented to others.
