Hell Is Real – Part I

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torment, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom – Luke 16:23.

In the original language of the Bible, Hell was described as Sheol, Hades, Gehenna and Tartarus; it is a place where Jesus will not be accessible. A place where the spirit does not die, a place where there will be continued torment for the wicked.  Hell is for those that would not receive the invitation of Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Hell is a place most people don’t think about whether they are believers or non-believers. It’s a place where both should think about and make a conscious decision they aren’t going there. Jesus has made a way for everyone to escape hell, the problem is that non-believers don’t believe in hell and the believer doesn’t think about hell. Hell is just as real as heaven and without submitting to the Author’s instructions both the believer as well as the non-believer has access to it. Hell is mentioned both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, it’s not a place where anyone would want to spend eternity.

Jesus came to save His people from their sins  (And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins – Matthew 1:21). Sin is a characteristic of human beings is manifested in individual acts of rebellion against God and against the expression of His intentions for humanity. Sin is not to be identified simply with the violation of the moral standards of society, through individual sins, as violations of the divine intention for human interactions are violations of human moral standards as well. Rather sin in its basic sense is always ultimately against God Himself rather than against mankind or any human person. The Bible is God’s Law, Jesus didn’t come to revise God’s Law but to fulfill it by saving God’s people and empowering the believer to live according to God’s written instructions.

It is not God’s desire for anyone to perish and no one has to perish when He has given away to escape. Those who does not live according to the Word of God does not have the Son nor the Father (Whosoever transgresseth, and abide not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son – 2nd John V. 9).  It does not matter what nationality one was born, God is the Creator of all living things and He has given His people instructions in how to worship and serve Him. We can’t accept God and reject Jesus nor can we accept Jesus and not accept God the Father (He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record (testimony) that God gave his Son – 1st John 5:10). There is no other way for us to get to the Father but through Jesus. Jesus is the door that leads to God and this is why when Jesus return, He’s coming with the wrath of God for those who rejected such a great gift from God.

The Bible describes Hell as a place where there will be no rest from the torment (And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh – Isaiah 66:24). (And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed than having  two hands to go to hell into the fire that never shall be quenched – Mark 9:43). Both the Old Testament and New Testament describes hell and it was placed there for us to understand there a hell. Those that go there will not have an excuse why they ended up there. The Bible is our instructions to live by to avoid hell.

Hell is not a popular discussion, but it’s something that needs to mentioned when preaching or teaching to let the people know hell is real, and in order to escape it, we must submit ourselves to the written Word of God. It’s more to salvation than saying I believe, we must follow the instructions (Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your owns selves – James 1:21-22). Countless of people attend church every Sunday and hear the Word of God but after service, they go back to living their normal lives that are opposite of the Word of God and Satan has them thinking because they attend church heaven is their home. If we do not follow the written Word of God, it does not matter how much we attend church or our position in the church, from the pulpit to the congregation will go to hell if we deviate from Bible instructions.
