John 6:36 – But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. Jesus’ reply to them asking to see a sign, that they had already seen and heard the miracles He performed. Although they had seen, they didn’t believe. In other words giving them another miracle wasn’t going to make them believe. Jesus knew their hearts, they would have been worshiping the miracles rather than the One who performed the miracles.
John 6:37 – All that the Father giveth me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will no wise cast out. Jesus was telling His followers, everyone, the Father gives Him they shall come to Him. God is Sovereign, He knows from the beginning of Creation who was going to accept His salvation by way of His Son and those who wasn’t going to accept salvation. Everyone that His Father had given Him would come, and those that came to Him, He wouldn’t turn them away from receiving His salvation.
John 6:38 – For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. Jesus’ telling them “He came from heaven” is an indication of Jesus’ deity. “For”, indicates an explanation of the previous statement. Jesus will not cast out any who come to Him because He came to do the Father’s will, it was the Father who sent Him.
John 6:39 – And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day. The will of the Father is twofold, (1) that all who come to the Son will be received and not lost (2) that all who see and believe in the Son will have an everlasting life which also includes those who have not seen the Son but believe in the Son ( Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed – John 20:29). Jesus is telling them, everyone, that has been chosen by the Father shall come, not a one will be lost. They may stray from Him at one point in their life, but when it’s all said and done, at the finish, they shall come to Jesus and at the last day they shall raise for eternal life with Him.
John 6:40 – And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is the will of the Father that whosoever see the Son with their natural eyes or those who believe in their heart and have not seen Him but believe in the Son will have eternal life. When they die and at Jesus’ return those who died in the faith shall rise (In a moment in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised in incorruptible and we will be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality – 1st Corinthians 15:52-53). The believer’s faith is in Jesus and not their good works are what makes them candidates for living for eternity with Jesus and the Father.
John 6:41 – The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. The Jews murmured because of their misinterpretation of what He said, He didn’t say I’m the bread that came from heaven but I am the bread of life. He also claimed that He had come from heaven, and it was His Father who sent Him.
John 6:42 – And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? The religious leader’s proof that Jesus was not from heaven was that they knew His parents, to them, that was nothing supernatural about Jesus’ origin. They were supposed to have been the spiritual leader, they should have known the Scriptures, and the Old Testament spoke of the coming of the Messiah. Isaiah the prophet prophesied about His birth as well as His torture and death. But they were looking at the natural and not the spiritual. God draws people by teaching them, everyone, then, who hears and learn from the Father will come to Jesus.
John 6:43 – Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. Jesus informed them you don’t have to murmur among yourselves, in other words, yes, Joseph is my natural father, the one My Father choose to raise Me and teach me while I’m on earth, but my real Father is God, the Creator, the One you say you serve.
John 6:44 – No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day. They didn’t have to wonder or ask among themselves who was going to accept Him as God’s Son, only those who the Father had chosen would draw to Him, would accept His Sonship. No one could come to Him unless the Father had ordained it, and at the last day, He would raise him. God, the Father, had given Him the authority.
