Bible Study, John Chapter 6 Verse 65-71

John 6:65 – And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.  Jesus informed them it was the Father who gave them access to Him. Without the Father’s permission, no one would be able to come to Him. It is the Father through His Holy Spirit that draws people to the Son. If the Father doesn’t draw them they will not accept the Son of God as their Savior.  It’s not that God has chosen some and denied others, He’s Sovereign and He knows the heart of man, He knows who will and who will not accept the Son. Those whose heart He knows that will accept salvation through His Son are the ones He draws to the Son.  No man can go to the Father but by Jesus, the Son of God. No prayers will be answered unless it’s asked in the name of Jesus, the Son of God. He’s the one that takes our petitions and takes them to the Father, He’s the One that is making twenty-four-hour intercession for us.

John 6:66 – From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.  Those who started with Jesus didn’t continue to follow Him after He made the statement of “eating His flesh, and drinking His blood”. They didn’t understand the spiritual side of what He was saying.  Rather than asking Him to open up their spiritual understanding they decided to no longer follow Him.  Many followers are Jesus haven’t received the spirituality of the Word of God.  Many think because they attend church and their name is listed as a member that they are in good relationship with God.  Jesus only taught what He heard and seen from the Father, and He taught it to His disciples and His disciples taught the instructions to all those who were professing to be Christians through the written Word of God. Just like the disciples of Jesus’ time; many turns away from Jesus Christ when they come to the knowledge of it takes more than attending a church service to be a Christian.  The Bible is the instructions for the Christians and we have to follow the instructions if we’re going to be disciples of Jesus (Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciple indeed – John 8:31).  We are the spiritual Jew (But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God – Romans 2:29). Just as the Jews of that time had to continue in His Word, the spiritual Jew also has to continue to live according to His Word.

John 6:67 – Then said also Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? After seeing His other disciples leave; Jesus asked the question to His twelve disciples were they too going to leave.  Those who are chosen will stick with Jesus until He returns or when they die unless they allow the influence of Satan hinder them.  The  Bible states many are called but few are chosen, this wasn’t just for the ministerial office but for every born-again Christian.  Many will accept the call to salvation, but few will accept the chosen when they will have to give up worldly activities and actions, being completed committed to God and His Word.  Many Christians want to live on both sides and you can’t either you’re going to accept the Word of God and submit to it or you will profess to be a Christian but continue to live as an unbeliever.

John 6:68 – Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go?  thou hast the words of eternal life.  Simon Peter knew within his heart that Jesus was the Son of God, he knew that Jesus was giving them the living word that would give them eternal life.  Where as could they go, the Pharisees and Sadducees were teaching the law and legalism. Their teaching wouldn’t give them life, so where else could they go but to the Son of God.

John 6:69 – And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.  God had open the disciple’s spiritual eyes and ears. They could comprehend who Jesus was, and they accepted and believed that He was the Christ, the Son of the living God.  Unless we have a spiritual encounter with the Lord as the disciples did when they truly had hearts of repentance, and their spiritual eyes and ears were open (For the people’s heart  is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest a any time  they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears and should understand  with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them – Matthew 13:15).  In order for spiritual healing to take place, it starts with our heart, turning from a sinful lifestyle and submits to the lifestyle God has instructed us to live according to.  This is done willingly, He’s not going to make anyone turn from the lifestyle they desire to live. When we accept Jesus as the Son of God, our Savior, and our Lord, we’re on our way on a spiritual journey with the Father and  Son.

John 6:70 – Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?  Jesus knew all the hearts of the disciples He had chosen, and although He had chosen them one of them would submit to the influence of Satan. He knew who was going to betray Him before the disciple carried out the action. Although we’re professing to be Christians, God is not going to constrain us from sin, He will allow us to do what we want to do.  He will empower us to dominate sin when we desire to resist sin. This is why it’s so important to live a life of prayer, fasting, reading and studying the Word of God to be strengthened in our inner man to dominate worldly and fleshly desires as well as the influences of Satan.

John 6:71 – He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.  Jesus knew before Judas knew that he would be the one that would betray him. Judas allowed Satan to influence him with money.  Judas loved Jesus, but he also loved money, it was greed, the love of money that caused him to betray Jesus.  We can’t allow anything to come into our hearts or thoughts that will bring about ungodly actions. We have to guard our heart with the Word of God; be careful of what we watch and listen to that will give ungodly influences.

John 7:1 – After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry (Judea) because the Jews sought to kill him.
