Awesome is a word we use for something we’ve accomplished, perhaps seen, or how we describe people. Believers use the word just as frequently as the unbeliever without realizing what we’re praising. As believers, we should be careful of words we’re using. There is nothing wrong with giving compliments, and praises as long as we don’t give someone or something more reverence than we do God. We say music, entertainers, singers, athlete’s, etc are awesome, but you hardly ever hear someone say God is Awesome!Awesome – Inspiring awe, wonderful, impressive.
Inspiring – To motivate as by divine influence, to arouse a thought or feeling in someone.
Wonderful – Something that causes a wonder, marvelous, excellent, fine.
Impressive – Tending to impress the mind or emotions
People and things can motivate us to either do right or do wrong. What we listen to can arouse our thoughts and feelings, but is it arousing us spiritually or naturally? People can influence us to excel or they can inspire us to give up on our hopes and dreams as well as our faith. When I think of the word Awesome I think of God, the One that can speak a word and your entire life will be changed in a moment of time. A divine being that can go into the innermost part of our being, a place where no one can go but God. God creates miracles, a miracle is something created by God and no one can give an explanation of how it happened. For example, if you were in need of a kidney because of cancer, but after visiting the doctor, you were told that your kidney was healed and in perfect condition.
Isn’t it amazing how we can praise people and things, but we can’t praise God the same way? The One we seek for His presents and not His presence! Maybe that’s the reason we don’t use His name as Awesome. Let’s look at the word Awesome and see the Awesomeness of God.
A – Alpha and Omega
W – Word became Flesh
E – Emmanuel
S – Saviour
O – Omnipresent
M – Miracle
E – El Elyon
Alpha and Omega – This is what Jesus called Himself as He gave the Revelation to John His servant. Jesus is the beginning and the end. Jesus is the eternal Lord and Ruler of the past, present, and the future, now that’s Awesome!
Word became flesh – In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus came to earth to redeem man back to the Father. There was no another way we could be redeemed but by the shedding of the blood of Jesus. Jesus came to earth to save us because we can’t save ourselves and there was no another way we could be saved, but through Jesus and the shedding of His blood for our sins. He died that we could live.
Emmanuel (God is with us) – It implies God will come to dwell among His own people, which He did in the person of Christ. As a born-again believer, know that God’s eyes are always on you, there’s nothing going on in your life He is not aware of. God is greater than anything or anyone that would try to come against you. Being born-again also indicates because the Greater one lives within you, you can do all things through Christ who will strengthen you.
Savior – There is only one Savior, the man Jesus Christ. There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. Jesus came to save us from our sins. He came that we would have an abundant life. He came that we could have fellowship with the Father through Him. Whatever you may be going through, understand, that if no one else is praying for you, Jesus is. He is seated on the right-hand side of the Father making intercessions for you. He never sleeps or slumber, He’s praying for your healing, deliverance, your peace, and safety. The intercessory work of Christ for Christians is similar to preventive medicine. Jesus is continually interceding on our behalf for our weakness and temptations.
Omnipresent – God is present in all places at the same time. You may seem as though you’re in the valley of the shadow of death, but know even if you are, God is there. Every circumstance and situation God is there in the midst of it. Stop looking at the problem and begin to look at the Problem Solver. Begin to look at the One who can calm the storms in your life.
Miracle – Jesus was a miracle, He was born of a virgin that had no physical contact with a man. He’s the Son of God and He came to earth to bring miracles in our lives. Just as He healed the lady with the issue of blood for twelve years, He can heal your issues. Jesus brought Jarius’ daughter back to life. He can resurrect what has been dead in your life. Just as He healed the man that had an infirmity for thirty-eight years and made him whole, Jesus can make you whole. You no longer have to be bound by anyone or anything, when Jesus comes into your life, He sets you free from bondage, who the Son sets free is free indeed!
El Elyon – The Most High God – the possessor of heaven and earth, the everlasting, Great God, the living God, faithful and the God of truth. He’s High and lifted up, He’s Sovereign, He’s Awesome!
