A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things – Matthew 12:35.
Heart (Hebrew: Le︡ba︡b – Greek: Kardia) In general usage, the core of the person. The term has a wide range of application which includes physical being, personality, emotions, intellect, will, and relationship with God. Because we’re created as free-will agents, it’s the individual’s response to the revelation of God and of their responsibility for their own thinking, willing and acting. The Old Testament often referred the heart to the physical organ of the circulatory system. Both Testaments also see the heart as the center of the personality or spiritual life. Jesus taught that sin came out of the heart of people. This is why it is so important what we allow to come into our hearts. We can allow sin to bombard our minds to the point we are no longer conscious of sin or think of it as not being a sin. Satan’s goal is to destroy our life spiritually; his influences don’t seem harmful, but if one takes the time and give themselves a spiritual check, every one of us has come up short and could use some improvement in our walk with the Lord. When we become sin-free; that’s when our spirit has left our physical bodies and returned to its Maker.
Our heart is something we have to work on daily, this is why King Solomon instruction was to guard our hearts (Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life Proverbs 4:23). Our mind is like a computer, and it downloads what we place in it to our heart. Whatever you think on, if you think about it long enough you will carry out what you think whether it’s to the glory of God or to the glory of Satan, one of them will receive glory.
What you look and listen to are usually still lingering in your subconscious, this is why people are bound by different immortal habits and addictions. The world is saying if it feels good; look good, taste good then indulges you. Commercials are influencing people with sexual sins, self-reward, gluttony, fears, sickness, and disease. If we’re spending most of our free times looking at television whether you know it or not, believe it or not; you’re being influenced by things that are contrary to the Word of God. What you are thinking of sooner or later will begin to manifest itself whether its through our actions, beliefs, and physical wellness; this is why we have been instructed to think according to the Word of God – (Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things – Philippians 4:8)
Christians, it is more to Christianity than professing to be a Christian, if our life isn’t reflecting the Word of God then we need to place our hearts at the altar and ask God to make a change in our hearts. Pray for the heart of God and the mind of Jesus Christ; pray to purpose in our hearts to submit to the Word of God. We do not want to be an average Christian; average Christians are carnal Christians and carnality can send you to Hell.
Jesus instructed His disciples if they wanted to follow Him they would have to deny themselves (Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me – Matthew 16:24). If we don’t deny ourselves then neither is we followers of Christ.
We all have a heart issue, and we need to place them on the cross of Jesus. We need to be truthful to ourselves and confess our faults and sins to Jesus. If I’m impatience, that’s an issue; if I have un-resolved hurt then I will be mean and angry with others who have nothing to do with my hurt; that’s an issue, and it needs to be dealt with, and the only One that can give me a heart transplant is God. If I dislike someone because they’re practicing sin, then I have a heart issue. I suppose to hate the sin and love the individual. If I can watch television two or four hours and cannot spend an hour with God in prayer and reading His Word, then I have a heart issue. If I’m sexually active with someone and I’m not married to them or sexually active with someone else’s spouse, I have a heart issue.
Spending time with God is what will change the heart. There is no way someone can continue to go before God, and their heart stays the same; just as it is when people say they have received Jesus and stay the same, it contradicts the Bible. Everyone that ever came before Jesus was changed they didn’t stay the same whether it was spiritually or physically.
For us to receive the manifestation of God in our homes, schools, communities, cities, and states; as well as our churches there has been a heart change. God’s Word needs to be written on the tables of our hearts and our minds. If God’s Word is in our hearts, then we would compare ourselves with the Word of God rather than with each other. When we compare ourselves with the Word of God, we can always see where we can grow some more, deny ourselves more. Rejecting what Satan would offer, Satan can never give you something unless you accept what he offers.
Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light – Matthew 11:28-30).
