Bible Study – John Chapter 10 Verses 34-42

Spiritual growth comes from taking the time to read the written instructions God has given for the professing Christians. It teaches what is required of us as Christians, informs us what is rightfully ours as children of God.  It instructs the believer in what and who they are fighting against in the spirit realm.  As children and soldiers of God, we must know our Father and how to communicate with Him.John 10:34 – Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, ye are God?  Jesus’s reply to their accusation and making good  the claims which they imputed to Him as a blasphemous by an arguments taken from God’s Word:  It is written I have said you were gods (I have said, Ye are gods[mighty ones or judges]; and all of you are the children of the Most High – Psalm 82:6).  Jesus explains to the religious leaders that God said His people were gods indicating they are mighty ones or judges.  As a true Christians, we’re warriors, interceding for what is right.  We can discern what is right and what is wrong according to the Word of God because our minds and hearts have been transformed by God’s written Word and not the worlds. God has empowered the believer to fight as a soldier against an army we can’t see naturally but can discern godly spirits and actions from evil spirits and their actions. We believe in the Son and the written Word of God as well as submitting to it.

John 10:35 – If he called them, gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken.  God called them god, and the Scripture cannot be broken or found fault with, every Word of God is true it’s authentic. Many have said the Word of God contradicts itself, but the error is when one tries to interpret the Bible with their intellect and misinterpret the Scriptures but the Scriptures does not error. (All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness – 2nd Timothy 3:16).  Inspiration refers to the supernatural guidance of the writers of Scripture by the Spirit  God so that what they wrote as the divine Word of God, transcribed accurately, reliably and without error in the original manuscripts. Scriptures are given to help Christians grow in maturity and they should rely upon them for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instructions in righteousness. The Bible speaks about blessings when the believer follows the instructions of the Word of God and it also speaks about the wrath of God when one lives in disobedient to the Word of God.  Neither Word shall be dismissed in this life or the next life after the tribulation period.

John 10:36 – Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest because I said, I am the Son of God?  Jesus is saying; “You are saying of Me whom the Father hath sanctified and sent Me into the World that I am blaspheming because I said I am the Son of God”. You have seen the miracles I have performed by my Father, healing those no man has ever healed; I’ve never taken the glory or honor for myself but always giving it to my Father, the One who sent Me.

John 10:37 – If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.  He does not demand an assent to His divine mission further than He gave proof of it. In other words, if I wasn’t doing the works of my Father don’t believe. Just His works alone should have been enough proof of His deity, but because of the hardness of their hearts and the influence of Satan, they rejected the very One that came to reconcile them to the Father.

John 10:38 – But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.  Jesus asked the Jewish leaders to at least consider His miracles because these indicated and demonstrated His deity.   The heart of the issue really is belief which is mentioned 99 times in the book John. Either we’re going to believe His Word or we’re not, we can’t be in between, it’s either or.  Jesus said to His disciple, blessed is the man that believe but have not seen Him.

John 10:39 – Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand.  Because He persevered in the same testimony concerning Himself they persisted in their malice against Him. They express the same resentment and justify their attempt to stone Him by another attempt to take Him. They no longer wanted to speak words against Him or stone Him, they wanted to  take Him and do bodily harm.

John 10:40 – And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.  He went int a private part of the country and there He abode.  There He found some rest and quietness when in Jerusalem He could find none.  He came to His own people and they rejected Him. He didn’t come the way they expected Him to as a king and warrior delivering them from the hands of their enemy.

John 10:41 – And many resorted unto him, and said, John, did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. They are acknowledging Him as a great as John said He would be.  John Baptist was now dead and gone, but yet his hearers profited by what they had heard prior to Jesus’ coming and performing any of His miracles.  They were confirmed in their belief that John was a prophet, who foretold of Jesus Christ.  Always keep in mind, the success and efficacy of the words preached are not confined to the life of the preacher nor do they expire with his or her death.

John 10:42 – And many believed on him there.  It was John who preached repentance and be prepared for the coming of the Lord. John’s preaching was accepted, and now Jesus was teaching to the same people, and they believed Him as being the Son of God and His teaching. They believed and accepted John’s repentance preaching, now they had a chance to see the Person John was speaking of.
