Prayer Is Needed

I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath, and doubting; in like manner also that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness with good works – 1st Timothy 2:8-10.

A charge given to Christians to pray for all men in general, and particularly for those in authority. Men must pray everywhere, no place is a miss for prayer, no place more acceptable to God than another.

According to this Scripture,  the men refers to those involved in leading public worship. Leadership in public worship is not restricted to elders or those with specific gifts or men in general praying. Prayer is one of the central features of Christian worship. Lifting up holy hands means morally and spiritually clean. We must pray in charity, without wrath, or malice, or anger at any person. We must pray in faith without doubting. Besides being displeasing to God it is difficult to pray when we have sinned or when we feel angry and resentful. This is why Jesus told us to interrupt worship, if necessary, to make peace with others (Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift – Matthew 5:23-24).

Many times Christians want to pray and worship, but have resentment in their hearts towards others, but the prayer and the praise is not acceptable to God when we’re holding resentment and bitterness in our hearts. The prayer will not be effective, to be reconciled means to be brought back into fellowship or favor with an offended party. Prayer is much-needed for every state, city and country, but before we can pray, we must have clean hearts before God. It’s our duty as Christians to pray for everyone that we know are in need of prayer. We need to pray for ourselves to live according to the Word of God before we can pray for others.

What we’re seeing and hearing in the world will increase prior to the coming of our Lord and Savior, this is why the people of God must pray (If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land – 2nd Chronicles 7:14). People are being murdered, our children are hiding and dodging bullets, old and young are bound by drugs and alcohol, people confused with their gender, atheist and agnostic, marriages are on the rise for divorce. Those who suppose to protect is killing, judges without justice, government not providing for the less fortunate.

Prayer is needed, but we must first get our hearts right with God before we can pray for others. Marching on Capital Hill or any other state is not reaching the heart of God, only prayer with submission to His written Word.
