And when ye stand praying forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses – Mark 11:25.
The Father iS the first person of the Trinity. Jesus always spoke of God as the Father. The Scriptures identify the Fatherhood of God in five areas: He is the Father of Creation. The Father of Israel, the unique Father of Jesus Christ. A protective Father of His children, and a redemptive Father when we become the children of God. Just as a physical father provides many benefits, so does our heavenly Father. He also provides a number of spiritual benefits as well as natural benefits.Jesus instructed His disciples then and now when they pray, believe that they will receive what they prayed for (Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them – Mark 11:24). Many Christians who read their Bible is familiar with this Scripture, but many have rejected the latter part of the instruction of the prayer, forgive.
Forgiving is something we all have a problem with, and we need the help of the Father to help us to forgive those who have wronged us. Forgiveness is mandatory if we want our sins to be forgiven. There is no one that hasn’t offended someone at one time or another. It may not have been intentional, but it doesn’t erase the offense that was committed. It is doubtful that a person who can’t forgive another has ever experienced the forgiveness of his or her own sins by God.
Prayers that move mountains are prayers for the fruitfulness of God’s kingdom. Fruitfulness comes by the believer praying for others to come into the kingdom of God to receive forgiveness of sins. We can’t hold grudges against another person. We should pray without selfish motives, and to pray effectively, we need faith in God, not faith in the object of our request. When we begin to pray from the heart of God, that’s when we will begin to pray according to His Word which is His will. When we have been offended, we will know how to come to the Father and tell Him how we feel about someone or something. It is He that gives us the grace to forgive someone. We can’t forgive on our own, we say it with our mouth, but the offense is still in our hearts and will begin to fester rejection, bitterness, self-pity and other emotions that will hinder and block our prayers from being answered.
The biggest problem in our churches is believers having unforgiveness towards one another. There are times we know when we have offended someone, and that’s when we need to humble ourselves and go the person and ask for forgiveness, don’t go to them with the remarks “if I’ve offended you”. Humbleness is one of the qualities God is looking for in His children, and when we have the heart of God, we will not have trouble asking someone to forgive us neither will we have trouble forgiving those who have offended us. Prayers will not be answered without forgiveness, prayers will not be answered with grudges and resentment. If we want our prayers to be answered, we will have to do it the way Jesus has instructed us to do FORGIVE!
