Light of the World

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven – Matthew 5:14-16.

The believer does not have inherent light; rather we have reflective light. As we behold the glory of the Lord, we reflect it. Therefore, we need to make sure that nothing comes between us and the Lord’s light. “Ye are the light of the world” describes the essential mission of the Christian to the world.

He or she is the condition (salt) to meet the world’s needs and has a mission (light) to the world. His or her light is to clearly shine forth into the darkness of human depravity. Darkness is the absence of light, and darkness alone cannot dispel the light, but the smallest light can dispel the greatest darkness.

The world is full of confusion and when one professes to be a Christian and live as their non-believer it brings more confusion to the non-believer spiritually. As Christians, the Fruit of the Spirit should be manifested through us on a daily basis (Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance – Galatians 5:22). The world is seeing many professing Christians manifesting the works of the flesh (adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. Idolatry, witchcraft, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies. Envying, murder, drunkenness, reveling – Galatians 5:19-21).

The works of the flesh aren’t exhibiting their sonship with their Father. None of these are in Him and they shouldn’t be in the professing Christians. How can we influence the non-believer when were doing the same thing their doing, going to the same places, listening to what they listen to, watch what they watch? Some of the things professing Christian places on social-media are offensive to the Spirit of God, and it makes all other Christians look like hypocrites. It’s confusion, and confusion doesn’t come from the Spirit of God.

Christians are to be a light to the world, leading them to the Father through their character and behavior. Every Christian should do a self-examination of themselves to see whether they are reflecting darkness or light. The Bible is our mirror, are we seeing God’s Word reflecting in us or the darkness of the Adversary, Satan? As Christians, let’s put on righteousness, mercy, kindness, love, allow the Spirit of God to shine through you to others!
