Wherefore take unto (take up) the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your lions girt about with truth and having on the breastplate of righteousness. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (wicked one). And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints – Ephesians 6:13-18 .
We’re in a spiritual battle we can’t see with the natural eye. We’re battling against principalities and powers who are fallen angels, whose king is Satan. To withstand them, we must depend on God’s strength and use every peace of armor He has given us.
We have access to all that Jesus has and is. We have access to the same power of Almighty God that was at work with Him when we have been born of the Spirit of God. This is why Jesus instructed Nicodemus that he needed to be born of the Spirit (Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God – John 3:5). The kingdom of God is power (But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witness unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth – Acts 1:8).
In order to defeat Satan, we must look to the finished work Jesus completed on the cross at Calvary. We must know who we are in Him (And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power – Colossians 2:10). To be complete in Him comes by being buried with Him (Buried with Him in baptism wherein also ye are risen with Him through faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead – Colossians 2:12). Buried with Him doesn’t mean water baptism, but Spiritual baptism, where Jesus brings the believer into an intimate relation with Himself and with His people, the body of Christ through the Holy Spirit. Jesus knew as we live a godly life, we would be an adversary to Satan just as Jesus is Satan’s adversary, so Jesus didn’t leave us without a weapon. He gave us the weapon of prayer, fasting and the word of God, and the blood of Jesus to fight against the adversaries.
Salvation doesn’t mean exemption from pain and sorry. Jesus came to give life, and Satan comes to take life. We can’t fight Satan with half or none of the armor on. The armor isn’t something we put on when we get into the fight, but it must be on at all times. Prayer and fasting is not to be used when we get into the fight, but prior to a fight. We build our spiritual muscles by fasting and praying so when the enemy attacks, we will have the strength to endure without giving up the fight and go AWOL. God never allows us to enter into a fight to go AWOL. If God orchestrated the fight by allowing the enemy to attack; then He has given us the weapons we need to fight and come out the battle with the victory.
All difficulties are not because God is allowing it for spiritual growth, but some difficulties are because of our disobedience. God’s chastisement comes by allowing Satan to whip us into we get back in line with the Word of God. The armor of God is to assist us in spiritual battles, we aren’t to forsake the armor nor take it for granted. If our armor is partial, we need to go to the Word of God and the prayer room to seize our armor. We can always get the armor, if we’re willing to, fast, pray, read and study the Bible and follow its instructions. The armor is there, all we have to do is put it on.
