Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak – Mark 14:38
In times of great stress, we are vulnerable to temptation; no one is exempt from temptation, even when we have a prayerful life; now and then, Satan will try to influence us with temptation.
Prayer to a Christian, is like water to a fish, without prayer we would die spiritually. Prayer is essential for spiritual growth; God wants us to experience more than faith for salvation. He wants us to experience encounters with Him that will keep us returning for more. Many Christians haven’t experienced His presence because they will not make a goal to pray daily. Prayer is like anything else we make goals for; the first one on the list of goals should be prayer.
Prayer is an armor that upholds the believer when we’re going through trials and tribulations. In life, we will have trials and tribulations, whether believers or not; this is what life brings. When we’re rooted in God and His Word, trials, and tribulations, don’t make us lose focus on who the Author and the Finisher of our faith are or the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls. Christians who have a life of prayer don’t stagger at the promises of God no matter what they may be going through.
As Christians, we should start our day with prayer and end it with prayer. Prayer before performing daily tasks will equip the Christian to conquer whatever may come their way. Prayer wraps us in righteousness, and when ungodly influences come, we can demand the influence to leave and not be partakers of unrighteousness. Prayers make us sensitive to God’s voice and His Spirit. Prayer keeps us in constant contact with God. Prayer also makes us sensitive to what is happening in the atmosphere—prayer motivates the Fruits of the Spirit and the Gifts of the Spirit.
Prayer makes us self-examine ourselves to see if we’re comparable to the Word of God. Prayer will give us a humble spirit towards God and others, but it also gives us holy boldness when needed. Prayer will keep us from entering into temptation, the temptation of doubt, fear, unbelief, anxiety, depression, confusion, lust, anger, envy, jealousy, and other temptations Satan comes to tempt us with. Prayer is needed to keep us from being a “roller coaster Christian”, up today, and down tomorrow.
Start with ten minutes a day, and as we’re faithful to ten minutes, we will see our prayer time increase. Every Christian should have a consistent prayer life. The length of time spent praying doesn’t move God; prayer from the heart is what reaches His heart!
We make schedules of things we need to do; make prayer the first on the list. Temptation is all around us; our spirit must be sensitive to God’s Spirit and not the spirit of the world. Too many Christians uphold the standards of the world, which is why they can’t grow spiritually. Whatever you feed the most will dominate you.
Prayer is a covering, protector, guide, and connection to the Father. We want to be sensitive to His voice and His Spirit and not be led by any other spirit. Pray and read your Bible; this will prepare you for whatever may come into your life. No prayer will lead you to sin, and prayer will keep you from sin!
