The king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant 2nd Kings 23:3).
In the eighteenth year of his reign, Josiah sent Shapan the scribe to Hilkiah the high priest to determine the sum of the silver contribution made by the collector at the temple door.
The money collected at the door was to be used to repair the house of God and pay carpenters and masons for their work. While trying to determine how money was collected, Hilkiah found the scroll of the Law of Moses in the temple. Hilkiah the high priest gave it to Shapan the scribe. After reading the scroll, Shapan informed Josiah about the found scroll.
Shapan was Josiah’s secretary and a greatly valued aide, he read the scroll to the king, and after reading, King Josiah was shaken because he knew that the nation was guilty of breaking God’s covenant and would bring God’s promised judgment.
The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and others to go visit Huldah the prophetess to see if there was any way to avert divine judgment. God spoke through the prophetess and said God’s judgment would be on Judah but Josiah would not see the judgment, he would be allowed to finish his reign in peace.
This came about because Josiah made a covenant at the age of twenty-five or twenty-six years old before the Lord to walk after the Lord with all his heart and follow the instructions given for the people of God to follow. Josiah burned all the vessels that were used to worship Baal, the groves, and the host of heaven. He removed the idolatrous priest who burned incense to Baal, the sun, moon, planets, and all the hosts of heaven.
He brought out the grove from the house of the Lord who the people were worshipping and burned it at the brook Kidron, ground it to powder, and sprinkled it on the graves of children of the people who had worshipped in the grove and the different gods. He destroyed the houses of the Sodomites, he destroyed everything that had brought an approach to God and the nations. Josiah was truly a righteous king because of his outstanding example of godliness.
Josiah was a young man when he dedicated his life to God and instructed his people how to worship and serve God. One is never too young or too old to serve God. Just like death does not have an age limit neither does true worship.
We have a generation that does not know God because the parents aren’t teaching their children about God, and sadly, the majority is serving God part-time. There is a remnant that is serving God the way Jesus instructed, “Worship in spirit and truth”, this can only occur if the Spirit of God is dwelling in the individual.
There are a lot of believers, but not worshippers. True worship is that of the heart, wanting the will of God to be established in our lives. Jesus came to do the will of the Father, and we too should want to be doing the will of the Father.
The Bible is the instructions for worshippers to read and follow; believers will read it when the pastor asks the congregation to follow along on Sunday. Worshippers will study the Scriptures, believers don’t know the Scripture or they will take the Scriptures out of context.
Worshippers will take the Bible as a whole to follow, whereas believers will take different Scriptures of the Bible to follow. Worshippers believe in the Word of God, and believers will hope. There is a difference between hope and belief.
Worshippers believe and act on God’s Word, whereas believers will doubt and guess if the Word work for them. God’s Word is spirit and they are life. His Words will heal, deliver, console, encourage, destroy, establish, tear down and rebuild.
God’s Word is I Am, that I Am, what you need Him and His Word to do for you will be established at His timing. His Word will bring correction and will bring destruction. When God speaks the elements and molecules submit.
God is calling the young and the old to worship Him in Spirit and Truth. When the Spirit of Truth resides in us, we will follow His instructions and not fight against it. Every chance we get; talk to your children about the goodness of God. Instruct them to live according to the Word of God and be an example!
