Captive by the World

And God said unto Moses, I AM that I AM: And He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you – Exodus 3:14.

The One who spoke with Moses declared Himself to be the Eternal One – Uncaused and Independent. Creator of all things can call Himself the I AM in the absolute sense; all other creatures are in debt to Him for their existence. In addition, God the Creator declares His relationship with the people of Israel.

God commissioned Moses to return to Egypt to deliver God’s people from the bondage of the Egyptians. Pharaoh was afraid that the Israelites might one day outnumber them and would organize and threaten his kingdom. So he made them slaves to kill their spirit and to stop their growth, but the more they were afflicted, the more they grew.  Moses had seen how the children of Israel had been treated prior to his leaving Egypt. He was the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; now, he was instructed by God to return and tell the Israelites that God had sent him to deliver them. He needed something to get their attention and to give them faith. God instructed Moses to tell them I AM that I AM. In other words, He was telling them I will be what you need Me to be.

The Israelites weren’t from Egypt, but they were living in Egypt similar to the spiritual Jew (But he is a Jew which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God – Romans 2:29. We’re living in the world but we’re not of this world They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world – John 17:16). True Christians are spiritual Jews, and they have left the actions of the world behind them.

We’re just passing through, striving to get to heaven. On this journey, Satan, whom we can call the Pharaoh of this world, has sent out his co-hosts, which could be called Pharaoh’s taskmasters, to do whatever they can to stop the progress of our journey and make it to our destination. Satan influences us with sin that is appeasing and the opposite of what God has instructed us to live.

The penalty of sin is death, both spiritual and physical. The moment Adam and Eve sinned, they died spiritually. The god of this world comes to steal, kill, and destroy the relationship believers have with the Father through sin. Everywhere we go, there is an influence to either listen to profanity, secular music, people’s dress attire, or influence people to commit fornication or adultery.

Entertainers who don’t serve God, but profess Christianity, influence believers to listen to their music and attend their concerts when the Bible has clearly instructed the believer not to entertain the things of the world (Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you -2nd Corinthians 6:17). The music they’re playing is not worshipping God, so if they aren’t worshipping God who they worshipping? They worship their father, the god of this world.

Both non-believers and believers idolize secular musicians as well as the singers and have made them their god. People will stand in line for hours to get into a concert, but if asked to stay in the church for more than 2 hours, it’s too long. Nonbelievers and believers will listen to secular music throughout the day, but they will not take ten minutes to listen to gospel music or read their Bibles.

So faith cometh by hearing, and hearing the Word of God. If one is feeding the world in their heart and spirit, then they will be servants to whom they are listening. One can’t worship God and Satan, no matter how they may try to. It’s either God or Satan, you can’t have both!

Ministers are supposed to be the Moses of today; they’re supposed to set the people free from the spirit of the world, which is Satan. It’s the anointing that destroys the yoke of sin. Still, many Ministers are either too busy with scheduling speaking engagements, the congregants take up too much of their time, or they have to play many roles in the church because the congregants aren’t in a position to assist the ministry. To hear from God, we must be with Him, and we are with Him through prayer, fasting, reading, and studying the Bible. When we spend time with Him and adhere to His Word, then He will use the believers as He did with Moses to set His people free.

The church is where people should be able to come for deliverance, encouragement, spiritual growth, and the gifts of the Spirit to be in operation, but people are leaving the church the same way they entered. I AM needs to be in the sanctuary, and He only enters when He’s welcomed. We welcome Him through our praise and worship that is in spirit and in truth. Our spirit connects with His Spirit, and He gives us a visitation to set the captive free, anoints, and appoints. We must fight the good fight of faith to prevent the spirit of this world from influencing our thinking, behavior, character, and desires, which could disconnect us from the Spirit of God.

The I AM that we need to set us free from whatever or whoever has a stronghold in our lives is within us.  Prayer is necessary, and it begins with believers when we assume our spiritual position. I AM will visit us not only in our churches but also in our homes and cars. Jesus came to set the captive free, and if you read the Bible, He was setting those free that was professing to be Christians! God will be what we need Him to be if we allow Him to be!

We all have an appointed time with death, and once death comes, we can’t repent or ask for forgiveness. Whatever state we’re in when death comes, when we wake up, it will either be heaven or hell. God has given each of us time to connect with Him. It’s through Him we receive deliverance from the spirit of the world. Many are captive and not aware they are captive by Satan’s influences. Spend time with God in prayer and through reading His Word. Fast so that your spirit will be opened to what He is saying. Jesus came to set the captive free!
