Communion

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, “Take eat, this is my body, which is broken for you, this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying “This cup is the new testament in my blood, this do ye as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink of this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till he come (1st Corinthians 11:24-26).

Communion is the distinctive symbol of Christian worship instituted by the Lord before His death. Taking communion is the believer’s outward expression of appreciation for Jesus’s sacrifice, done in fellowship with Him and with one another.

Communion is sacred, and it should be taken with reverence. Whenever we take communion and we’re in division, disunity, envy, and strife with each other, we’re not in reverence of the body of Christ. The body of Christ should be in unity; Jesus and the Father aren’t warring against each other, and neither should the body of Christ.

We do communion by the ordinance of man, taking it on the 1st Sunday, when He has instructed, “As often as we take it,” as the disciples ministered from house to house, the breaking of bread indicating they were taking communion daily. Communion should be taken with reverence, and other than the 1st Sunday, as well as purposing in our hearts to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God.

The Bible indicates one should examine oneself before taking Communion.
