Denominations

To the end He may stablish your hearts unblamable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints – 1st Thessalonians 3:13.

Many people place their faith in their denomination rather than placing their faith in Jesus and the Father. Man created denominations, but Jesus created the church. The church is the body of believers who are disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Bible is written for believers in Christ; when the believer is spoken of in the Bible, they are usually spoken of as believers or saints, unless the letter was written to a specific body of believers such as the Thessalonians or Colossians and so forth; it was the people, not a denomination.

Denominations have brought forth division in the body of Christ with different acceptions of the doctrine of Christ. Some believe in the fivefold ministry: apostle, prophet, pastor, teacher, evangelist. Others believe in the Bishops and dismiss the Apostles and Prophets. Some believe in women pastors, while others don’t. Others have the Pope as the man over the entire body of believers and no other ministerial offices. Some believe in the gifts of the Spirit while others don’t. I could go on and on with the different dos and don’ts with believers who are supposed to believe in the Father and the Son, but take certain Scriptures of the Bible and dismiss other Scriptures.

God spoke to godly men to write the Scriptures, and He had others to translate the Scriptures in different languages so that no one would be unaware of His written Word. Either we’re going to believe God’s written Word and adhere to it, or we’re not. Following any other doctrine is a transgression (Whosoever transgresseth, and abide not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ. he hath both the Father and the Son – 2nd John Verse 9). God’s Word is Spirit, and it is life for those who believe and apply it to their life daily.

There will be no denominations in heaven, but there will be many in hell because they left the teaching of the Bible. God’s Word is not just a figure of thought; it is God Himself speaking to His people through His written Word (All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works – 2nd Timothy 3:16-17). This refers to the supernatural guidance of the writers of Scripture by the Spirit of God, so that what they wrote was the divine Word of God, transcribed accurately, reliably, and without error in the original manuscripts.

There have been translation errors, but there is enough correct translation that if one wants to be saved, they can be through the reading of the Scriptures and believing what they read, as well as applying the Word of God to their lives. God has a standard, and it’s for all nationalities. Don’t get hung up on a denomination and not the instructions of God’s written Word. Read and study the Bible for yourself so you will know if the denomination you’re in is rightly expounding on the Word of God.

When Jesus returns, He’s not coming for denominations; He’s coming for those who are living according to the instructions of the Bible. The church, which is the body of Christ, not the building. The church has become weak because they have left the doctrine of the Bible and live by the doctrine of man.

People will quickly tell you what denomination they’re in rather than being a follower of Christ. When we’re followers of Christ, we will have the mind of Christ (Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus – Philippians 2:5). Christ’s mind was submitted and willing to God’s will, and Christians should have the same mindset.

Jesus gifted men to be apostles, pastors, prophets, teachers, and evangelists (And He gave some, apostles; and some prophets, and some evangelists; and some pastors, and some teachers for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ – Ephesians 4:11-12). Many of these offices have been diminished by man, and because of this, the body of Christ is not operating in the empowerment given by Christ.

Each of these offices has a specific anointing to enrich the body of Christ. When these offices are established in a ministry, that body of believers is strong spiritually because the offices are operating, and so are the gifts: The word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, diverse kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues. All these are the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the believer.

God has given every believer a gift, but because of the denomination they’re in, they may not believe in the gifts; those gifts lie dormant. The gifts are given to be a blessing to the believer and to draw the nonbeliever. Read and study the Word of God, follow the instructions, not a denomination.
