Forsaking All
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple (Luke 14:33). Forsaketh means literally to renounce or give up. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we have to make a commitment to live according to the instructions that has been given us through the written and spoken Word of God.
When we read the Bible, it’s the written Word of God; when we attend church and the minister is ministering by the Holy Spirit, it’s the spoken Word of God. Please keep in mind, everyone ministering, isn’t ministering by the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit of God is speaking it makes those that are living contradictory to the Word of God uneasy, it makes those who is trying to live the best they know how, thirst the more to please Him.
As a Christian we may have to give up control of our money, time, career, marriage, hated, separated from family and sometimes put to death for our faith in the Son of God. When we forsake all for the gospel this indicates the individual has accepted the will of God in every area of their life and in their being, it’s no more their will be done, but God’s will be done in them and through them. A disciple is a committed Christian, they seek to please the Lord in all their ways and is willing to forsake their desires for God’s desires.
