He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very (the best of) friends – Proverbs 17:9
To cover someone’s transgression is to conceal the matters with others. To cover is to forgive someone who hurt you, it’s not denying what they did or said, but you forgive them, and you no longer bring it up when there is a disagreement. It’s hard to forget when you have been wrong, but you can forgive, and the words or actions will no longer be like a recorder playing in your mind and emotions.
We have long-term and short-term memory; we can’t erase it from our memory, but when we forgive someone, it doesn’t continue to stay in our focus. Forgiving doesn’t mean you continue to allow someone to hurt you, boundaries should be put in place or disassociate yourself with the individual, but continue to pray for them.
