Fruit of the Spirit (Love)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law – Galatians 5:22

The fruit of the Spirit is the spontaneous work of the Holy Spirit in us.The Spirit produces these character traits, which are found in the nature of Christ. They are the products of Jesus’ control, and we can’t obtain them by trying to get them. If we want the fruit of the Spirit to grow in us, we must join our lives to His.

We must know Him, love Him, remember Him, imitate Him and the results will be that we will fulfill the intended purpose of the Law, loving God and man. Galatians speaks about nine fruits of the Spirit, but a vast majority of Christians have no idea what are the fruits of the Spirit or how they operate neither are they operating in people that are professing to be Christians. The first fruit indicated is love, love is something everyone has, but this love the Bible is speaking about is different from the love humans have for one another, it’s a love that is unconditional.  It’s the love no matter what a person, do or say you will still love them, and with love comes forgiveness.

It’s a love that is stronger than death itself. It’s a love that has no boundaries, it doesn’t discriminate whether it’s naturally or spiritually. It’s a love that is humble and meek. It’s a love that comes from God and it enters our heart to love like Him and His people. It’s a love that will love every denomination and everyone. It’s gentle, it’s compassionate, shows mercy. It’s a love that never looks down on anyone or think themselves better than someone else. It’s a love that communicates to God through submission to His word. It’s a love that constrains our behavior when others talk about us or mistreat us. It’s love that will love others when they don’t love you. It’s the kind of love the secular world would say you’re a fool to allow someone to do you that way, and you still love them. It’s the love Jesus had for us when He died for our sins, knowing we didn’t love Him, knowing we would reject Him, knowing we wouldn’t submit ourselves to the instructions of the written word of His Father. It’s the love that God gives us to love Him back and to love His people.

Unconditional love comes through the Holy Spirit living within us. It’s the operation of the Holy Spirit being manifested in us and through us to show the love of God to the drug addict, alcoholic, prostitute. every sinful action people commit, we should love them, not their actions of sin, but the person. When we love people as God loves us, then do we have the fruit of love. Many say they have love, but when people don’t do as they desire them to do, that love dwindles, but unconditional love remains. It doesn’t die, it will stay the  same yesterday, today and forever, because it’s the love of God being manifested through us to His people.
