Commitment

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession (confession) of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised – Hebrews 10:22-23.

Draw near is the same word rendered come in full assurance. Our consciences can be cleansed through the blood of Jesus Christ, just as the high priest washed before entering into the Most Holy Place, so believers are cleansed before they come before the Holy One.

Many Christians today don’t understand what true commitment is. One reason for this is, they’ve come out of churches that were controlled by man and not by the Holy Spirit. Consequently, these Christians were bound by a lot of rules and regulations which were not based on the Word of God and hindered their Christian walk. Real commitment concerning the things of God is not a commitment to rules and regulations, banquets, conventions made by man, just a lot of do’s and don’ts. Real commitment is not based on what man requires of us, but on what God requires.

First and foremost, God requires us to be committed to a Person, the Person of Jesus Christ. As Christians, our first commitment is not to ourselves, to a preacher, or to an organization, but to Jesus Christ! There are a lot of people who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, but they’ve never committed themselves to His Lordship, they have never accepted Him as Lord and Master. They are holding back a part of themselves for themselves, so they can follow their own desires and ambitions. We need to forsake our own desires and our own ambitions and seek the will of the Lord, when we seek His will and plan for our lives, that’s when we will have fulfillment, enjoyment, peace, and pleasure.

When you make someone your lord, you submit everything you have, and everything you are to that person. You serve that person with all your heart, when that person says “Go ” you go. If  that person says “Sit down”, you sit down because that person is lord over you. When Jesus becomes your Lord, you subject yourself to Him in every area of your life. You give Him your talents, your ambitions, your desires, you surrender your entire life to Him.

True commitment, is commitment to the Lord, and commitment to the written word of God.
