According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue – 2nd Peter 1:3
Virtue – Morals, chastity, a good quality, ethical conduct, respectability, honor, honesty, character, kindness, innocence, trustworthy, faithfulness, temperance. Virtue is something professing Christian’s should have. Virtue should be manifested in and through us both naturally and spiritually. Sadly to say, sometimes you will see virtue being manifested through an unbeliever more so than you see in some Christians.Yes, we all have sinned and came short of the glory of God, but this doesn’t give us an excuse to continue to practice sin. The above scriptures indicate God has given us everything we need for life and godliness, but in order for us to live according to the Scriptures, we must have knowledge of God and who He is in our lives and understand what He has given us; and this only comes from studying the Word of God, hearing the Word of God, and prayer. Through prayer we communicate with God and God communicates with us through our spirit, His written Word, speaking to us through someone else, a billboard, sign, radio or television. In order to get to know God, we must fellowship with Him. We fellowship with Him through reading His Word and dialoguing with Him about His Word.
As we talk to God about His Word, surely if you desire a better understanding of His Word, God will reveal His Word to you. He wants us to understand His Word so we can be a doer of His Word. Josiah was the 15th king of Judah, he began to reign as early as 8 years old. In the eighteenth year of his reign as the Temple was being repaired, Hilkiah the high priest found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord and gave it to Shaphan the scribe. Shaphan read it to King Josiah; as the King heard the instructions of the Law, he rent his clothes, indicating genuine repentance for himself and his people. He immediately instituted reform with just one reading of God’s Law. How many times do Christians attend church, and continue to live opposite of what God has instructed in His Word?
Josiah’s father was King Amon, he did evil in the sight of the Lord as His father Manasseh did. Manasseh lived according to the ways his father lived, serving and worshipping idols. The evil started from the great-grandfather down to the father but was stopped when an eight-year boy became king. What is in the heart will be manifested rather its good or evil (For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man [woman] Mark 7:21-23).
Abigail displayed wisdom and kindness that were absent in her foolish and mean-spirited husband Nabal. When approached by David’s warrior for food rations, Nabal refused their request despite the fact that David’s men had been protecting Nabal’s property. The insult he gave to David’s men was going to cause retaliation and death to Nabal’s entire household, but Abigail was a woman of a kind heart, moral, character. She reverenced the anointing upon David’s life and had wisdom from God to intercede for her husband’s rudeness and unkindness. The woman must have had a relationship with God to be able live with such a man as well as wisdom to talk with the King and then was used by God to prophesied David’s future.
God is looking for men and women to submit themselves completely to Him. Men and women who will not serve and worship idols. An idol can be anything we place before God. If we give more time in watching television, talking on the phone, You-tube, Facebook, and Twitter than our time to fellowship with God, then we have made them our idol. If we’re busy working in the ministry, but don’t have quality time in prayer, reading and studying the Word of God, then we have made ministry our idol. If Satan can’t get you to willfully sin, he will keep you busy (being under Satan’s yoke). If we’re not prayerful, Satan can easily find a loophole to guide us in the opposite of what the Word of God has instructed us.
There is no need for professing Christians to be powerless when God has promised He has given us power over the enemy. We become powerless when we decide to do it our way rather than God’s way. Men and women are divorcing saying God has told them He has someone else for them or that wasn’t the spouse He had for them. Been in the marriage ten, twenty years or more, now God decides to tell you that wasn’t your spouse He intended for you, that’s a lie from the pits of hell, but because Christians are leaning to their own understanding rather than the understanding of God; they are taking heed to seducing spirits (Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter time some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing {deceiving} spirits, and doctrine of devils – 1st Timothy 4:1).
Summer will be here soon; women of the world, as well as some Christian women, will be revealing all they can without walking the streets nude. If a man has not made a covenant with their eyes not to look at another woman with sexual tendency other than their spouse, many homes will be destroyed because they’re looking at the physical attraction and not the character of the person. If he or she commits adultery with you and they are aware that you’re married, what makes you think, they will not cheat on you as you have done with your spouse? Satan knows what attracts a man just as he knows what attracts a woman; he’s out to steal, kill and destroy and if you’re not grounded in God and His Word you will be overtaken with the spirit of lust.
Joseph was 17 years old when God begins to give him dreams about his future. He told his brothers about the dreams and they became jealous and sold him to the Ishmaelite’s, who took him to Egypt. The merchants sold him to Potiphar (chief of the executioners). God gave Joseph favor with Potiphar. Potiphar gave Joseph authority to rule, but as time went by Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce Joseph, but Joseph ran rather than staying around seeing whether or not he could reframe himself from sinning against God and committing adultery. If you have to run, it’s better to run rather than committing the act. No one knows the appointed time for death to knock on the door but it would be sad to die while committing the act and wake up in hell.
If you’re full of anger, unforgiveness, jealousy, envy, manipulation, lying, or any of the other actions, God has instructed us not to have as Christians this will send you to hell just as fast as sexual sins. Take time and read the Bible, study the Bible, attend Bible Study, talk to God about His Word to receive clarity of His Word. As you read the Word and purpose in your heart to submit to it, a lot of things you’re struggling with will no longer be a struggle. God is expecting Christian men and women to have virtue!
