We Need the Holy Spirit

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1st Corinthians 15:58).

Retreat can be positive as well as negative. The negative side is sometimes we will withdraw ourselves if we feel it’s dangerous or think Satan will attack more if we continue to come against something we know is not of God. On the positive side, it can be when we go into seclusion to be with the Lord through prayer and fasting, studying the Word of God without any interruptions.

There is a difference between a Christian and a born-again Christian. A Christian is one who believes and confesses there is a God, They will attend Sunday services and they will read the Bible occasionally and pray every now and then. They’re people of morals and integrity regarding certain things. Some things God has forbidden, they will not submit to because it’s instructing them to deny themselves. Whereas a born-again Christian is one that not only professes Jesus as the Son of God, but they have received of His Spirit living within their physical being. They have made Jesus not only their Savior, but their Lord; and is willing to submit themselves totally to the Word of God.

We don’t receive the Holy Spirit just because we believe in God or His Son, if it wasn’t  so, Jesus, the Son of God wouldn’t have received the fulfilling of the Holy Spirit (And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him-Matthew 4:16).  In Jesus’ human form He needed the Holy Spirit.

Jesus instructed Nicodemus in order to enter into the kingdom of God, he would have to be born of the Spirit of God. Born of water implies natural, physical birth, but “Spirit” refers to supernatural spiritual birth (Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit – John 3:5-6).

Prior to Jesus’ ascending to heaven, He instructed His disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise and as they followed His instruction they were filled with the Holy Spirit (And there appeared unto them cloven [divided] tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them, And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance – Acts 2:3-4).

We are tripod beings; spirit, soul and body. When Jesus said the kingdom of God was in us, He was referring to the Holy Spirit residing in our physical bodies (Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode [home] with him – John 15:23). Every king rules his kingdom, if the Spirit of God is living within our being, He will rule over our lives.

The reason why so many Christians feel defeated is that they have not received of the Spirit of God living within their beings. When we have been filled with His Spirit, we know within us, we cannot be defeated, we will know we are more than conquers through our Lord and Savior, we will know that no weapon formed against us shall prosper because the thoughts God has towards us is not evil, but good to bring us to an expected end.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean you will never have doubt, and not be fearful in different situations, but having Him within us, will keep us from fainting when we go through difficult situations. There are times no matter how we pray, fast, read and quote Scriptures the problem or problems will continue because this is something God has allowed to bring us nearer to Him; to assist us in our making for spiritual growth.

How can we know what God can do, if we have never gone through difficulties? How can we know God can heal if we have never been sick? How would we know God will give you peace in your mind and spirit if we have never gone through anything for Him to provide for us? In order for God to show Himself strong in your behalf, you will have to go through something.

Have you ever thought about how strong the Apostles were in their faith and the difficulties they went through because of their faith? Each Apostle was filled with the Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit that resided in the Apostle resides within us if we have been born of the Spirit of God. Just as God used them by His Spirit, He will also use us in the same manner when we come to the realization it’s God and not us, submitting ourselves to His ways and plans.

The world is in a chaotic state, and we the sons of God need to come forth in the power of God, praying against the wicked and evilness that have the people bound. God is waiting for us, the ones who have His Spirit living within them. Evil only over-comes in the movies and on television, but in the real world where God is God, evil will never overcome good when the people of God raises up and begin to take the authority He has given us. One can chase a thousand and two can chase ten thousand; we’re not fighting people, we’re fighting against the spirits that have them bound and are using them to do all manner of wicked and evil things. We can only fight and conquer through prayer, fasting and loosing the Word of God against the evil and wickedness that’s in the world and in people.

We cannot fight Satan or his imps physically, but the fight is in the spirit realm when we pray in the spirit we’re fighting against evil we cannot see with our eyes, but we’re conquering in the spirit. This is why Satan sends doubt, frustration, and hurt because if God’s Spirit is not indwelling our beings, we will go on a retreat from praying, fasting, reading and quoting God’s Word. When we’re in a spiritual battle if the Spirit of God is not within us, we will allow Satan to frustrate our faith, but when the Holy Spirit is within us, He will begin to give us Scriptures, He will begin to exert us to pray, fast and read God’s Word. He will bring to our memory things God has done for us before. God will never allow Satan or his followers to overcome what is right when we pray and ask God for His righteousness to prevail upon the earth as well as in our being. Prayer is important for every Christian and for the future of the people of the world.

The Fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit are manifested by the Holy Spirit indwelling our being, neither of these will operate without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In order to conquer Satan, his imps as well as those that are influenced by Satan, we must have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We need the Holy Spirit just as much as we need to breathe! We’re fighting against wicked in the spirit realm that is influencing in the natural. Put on the armor of God and fight the good fight of faith.
