Which God Are You Serving?

BeLoved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world – 1st John 4:1.

Everyone is worshipping and serving someone or something whether they know it or not. Christians are to serve and worship God and Him only, but because of false doctrines, professing Christians think they can serve God and the world. Others say they serve God, but they are serving-man, a doctrine that allows one to do different religious acts and say they are serving God.

Because different religious people think there are many ways to get to God other than what Jesus has instructed has influenced many to serve false gods. Jesus instructed His followers that there was no other way but by Him. He also instructed that the Father must first draw them (No man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him and I will raise him up at the last day – John 6:44).

Religion and denomination were appointed by man, not God. When God delivered the Israelites from Egypt, His instructions were they were not to serve no other god, they were not to worship and serve the gods of their neighbors which were the Canaanites ( After the doings of the land of Egypt wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do; and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their ordinances – Leviticus 18:3). While living in Egypt the Israelites served the Egyptians gods, they were journeying to the Promise Land which was Canaan, and they serve false gods.

When the Israelites were delivered from Egypt some of the Egyptians and other nationalities joined in with them and these other nationalities were also serving pagan gods. God gave them instructions on how to serve Him (One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you – Numbers 15:16). The Israelites would serve God for a while then they would return to serving pagan gods such as the golden calf, birds. wood, trees, moon, and stars. From the fall of Adam and Eve, mankind has been influenced by the world and its culture.

God gave an instruction booklet called the Bible and everyone that is professing to be a Christians should follow the instructions. We can’t live by what we think is right or what the religious say is right, we have to read and study the Bible; this is where we will find the truth. This is where we get to know God and what is required of us as Christians.

We have been instructed to love God and to love our neighbors, we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, meaning we will not love anything or anyone more than we love God. We will not have sex without marriage because we have been bought with a price, and that was the shedding of the blood of Jesus for our sins.

We’re to have mercy and compassion towards others, we’re to treat others the way we desire to be treated. We’re to forgive others the way we desire God to forgive us. We’re to communicate with God on a daily basis, this is how we build our relationship with Him. If we’re allowing people and things to keep us from spending time with God then we have allowed the things and people to become our god.

If we can praise entertainers and actors, but never praise God, we have made them our god. Spending time listening or watching them rather than spending time with God. God has not instructed us to be in prayer twenty-four, twenty-four, but He does want some of our time.

If we’re focusing on what makes us happy rather than what is God’s plan for us, then we have made ourselves gods. God is not concerned about our happiness, He’s concerned about our holiness. And He does not want our holiness to be focused on more than God who enables us to live a life of holiness.

Read the Scriptures, study them, examine yourself and see if you have allowed yourself to serve and worship another god other than the God of gods!
