Reflection

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things – Philippians 4:8.

Reflection –  Reflection is a thought, consideration, absorption, imagination, deliberation, pondering, meditation or concentration on something or someone. Whatever we put in our minds determines what comes out in our words and actions. We need to examine what we’re putting into our minds through television, books, movies, magazines, and music. Replace harmful input with wholesome information.  Our minds are like a computer, it downloads information and stores them in our memory and whatever is in our memory whether its positive or negative will begin to surface sometimes years after the information has been stored. As Christians we should be mindful of what we’re putting in our minds as well as our spirit, our minds are the battleground where Satan attacks with thoughts of despair, anger, fear, anxiety as well as lust. Before an action is committed it has to be thought about first, and a decision has to made whether or not to carry out the thought.

In order to fight the ungodly thoughts that come to our minds, we have to have the Word of God in us. When the Word is in us, when thoughts come in our minds that are against the Word of God, His Word will begin to reflect on our thoughts as well as our actions. We’re bombarded throughout the day with flashes of lust through advertisements whether it’s through eating or sexual gratification. Television is promoting selfishness, it’s  all about “ME”, how we should look, if we want to be popular or recognized as beautiful; beauty comes from within and is shown on the outside. We’re programmed that we must wear a certain size, must have tight abs, chest buffed for someone to be attractive to us. We’re made to think we must live in a certain part of town or in a certain community or have a big home, drive a certain type of car to be successful. Having everything we’re trying to be programmed to be and have, but don’t have the peace of God is not a success. When we seek God and His righteousness, everything we need He will supply, He will go as far as giving us the desires of our hearts when it’s in line with the Word of God.

God’s desire for us is to be successful both naturally and spiritually, but when we begin to make the world’s reflection to be our main focus, we have lost focus on God and that’s when we have made the world’s reflection our god. Read the Word of God, His promise to His people are faithful and true, when we live by the Word of God. The promises of God are for those who submit themselves to Him and His Word.
