Now there are diversities (various kinds) of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administration (ministries), but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations (activities), but is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal                         1st Corinthians 12:4-7.

The gift of interpretation of tongues is the least gift of all of them because it has to depend upon another gift in order to operate. It doesn’t operate unless tongues have been in operation. The purpose of this gift is to render the gift of tongues intelligible to the hearers so that the church as well as the possessor of the gift may know what has been said and may be edified.

Spiritual gifts are categorized as Revelation gifts: The Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge and the Discerning of Spirits. Power gifts are: Gift of Faith, Working of Miracles and the Gifts of Healing. Utterance gifts are: Prophecy, Divers Kinds of Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues. One or more of these gifts should be in operation through every Christian for the edification of the body of Christ. These gifts weren’t just for the Apostles, but to every believer (Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (forgiveness) of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Spirit). For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call – Acts 2:38-39). 

Spiritual gifts come through the in filling of the Holy Spirit. When someone is speaking with tongues, a person who is gifted with the interpretation of tongues should immediately begin to be in tune with the Spirit. God will use those who is in tune with His Spirit to interpret what has been spoken by the Spirit of God. Sometimes as we’re praying the Holy Spirit will get involved in our prayers (Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities {weaknesses} for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered – Romans 8:26).  Sometimes as we pray, the Spirit of God will give us the interpretation of what we just spoke in tongues.

Tongues is to edify the individual and not to be spoken publicly unless there is someone there to interpret what was spoken. If tongues are spoken publicly those who hear it will not understand what is being said and this can bring confusion, and God is not the author of confusion. Tongues have been forbidden in many churches and this is going against the Bible (Wherefore, brethren, covet {earnestly desire} to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues – 1st Corinthians 14:39).

Spiritual gifts are for the believer and for everyone that desires the filling of the Holy Spirit. The filling of the Holy Spirit is a gift and should be desired by every believer, all they have to do is desire it, and ask for it (If ye then, being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him – Luke 11:13).

Many have rejected speaking in tongues because of the misuse of it, but we all should desire to speak to our Father through the Spirit He has given us (Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe – 1st Corinthians 14:22).
