Job Description – Part 2

And he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which Hath has given us – 1st John 3:24.

When applying for an employment position, the employer will give the potential employee a job description, the description will list everything the potential employee is required to do in order to get the position and keep the position. We have been chosen by God to be employed as Christians, and we too have been given a job description. Once saved, always saved is not in the contract agreement. As Christianity, if we want to be compensated, we must continue to live according to God’s written word until God calls us home.

Light (Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven – Matthew 5:14-16). As light, we point the way to reconciliation with God, and we reflect God’s character. Light describes the essential mission of the Christian to the world. We’re are the condition to meet the world’s need and we have a mission to the world.

Branches (I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing-John 15:6). As branches, we bear godly fruit as long as we are attached to the Vine, Jesus Christ. For the branches to produce more fruit, it must abide which means  to dwell , to stay, to settle in, to sink deeper. The believer who lovingly obeys the Word of God produces much fruit.

Stewards (Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful – 1st Corinthians 4:1-2). Like administrators, we have responsibilities to manage ourselves. God will evaluate how we handled the resources He has given us. We are attendants or helpers who assists our Master, we take orders and executes them. As stewards, believers manage the message and ministry God has entrusted to them.

Ambassadors (Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us;: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God – 2nd Corinthians 5:20). We’re representatives of God’s kingdom to the lost citizens of this world. Ambassadors are more than messengers, they are representatives of the Sovereign who sent them. Christians have been called by our King to serve as ambassadors in a world that is in rebellion against Him. However, God has given His representatives a message of peace and of reconciliation.

Living Stones (Ye are lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ – 1st Peter 2:5). In former days, God dwelt in a physical temple, now He dwells in His people, the church. Christians are part of God’s great spiritual building project. Stones refer to stones that are shaped and ready for use in constructions, as opposed to natural rock. With constructions, things are torn down, broken down, and rebuilt to withstand any destruction that would come to destroy the building. God has built us to withstand anything that would come against us. Greater is He that lives within us than he that lives in the world.

Priests (But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praise of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light – 1st Peter 2:9). Like priest, we have the privilege of approaching God, and the responsibility of helping others in reconciling themselves to Him. Believers are transformed not only internally which describes us as being made into a holy priesthood, but also  externally, we are a priesthood that functions in ruling capacity as kings. Kings rules and dominates, we should have dominion over ourselves to present ourselves holy to God.

Sojourners (Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lust, which war against the soul – 1st Peter 2:11). As children of God, we do not belong to the world. This world is not our home, we are only passing through. We’re traveling to our eternal home, heaven. We must distant ourselves from our own self-indulgent urges. Life is  not a game, but a war to waged, and that war is a matter of eternal life or spiritual death that will produce eternal torment. The war we’re in is not fought physically or temporal, but its spiritual, and we can only win through fighting in the spirit. Which cause for fasting, praying, reading and studying the Word of God and applying it to our life daily.

Just like any employer’s job description, the employee must adhere to it, so do we with God’s  job description. It’s not hard, we just have to apply ourselves to fulfill the position.
